Happy Keiki Preschool
Happy Keiki Preschool is based upon the philosophy of respect for the individual child, his/her ability to grow, to think, and to play creatively, while discovering education through hands-on experience. We believe that all children and adults are life-long learners and to maximize a child's potential requires a positive and supporting learning environment.

The preschool focuses on the children engaging in age-appropriate, educational and fun activities through both structured and unstructured settings. Within a group instruction setting, the preschool provides opportunities for each child to develop their listening skills and abilities to follow instructions and rules.

My son has been going here for the past 6 months. The teachers are really sweet and are always happy to see the kids. My son had a hard time adjusting at the beginning but the teachers we're always loving and comforting. He was always happy when I came to pick him up.

Happy Keiki Preschool, University location, is a health and safety hazard for children.

1) Staff member was seen shoving food into an infant's mouth while said child was in the high chair and appeared to have a mouthful of food already.

2) Different staff member was seen leaving a child unstrapped on changing table to get something. If the child rolled off onto the tile floor, a serious head injury could be sustained.

3) A toddler boy was seen walking around the main play area without any diaper. No staff member attempted to fix this situation.

4) Bugs were seen crawling around

This review is for the University location.
My daughter has attended Happy Keiki since she was 1. I first knew about it when I started babysitting for a little girl who was attending the school and I came to pick her up. The teachers seemed to take turns wearing her and other babies who were extra fussy or in a transition period, which I was impressed by. I was also impressed by the fact that they were a bilingual school, and many of the teachers and children spoke Japanese. I have worked with children in several schools on the island as a babysitter and tutor, and know that schools that teach

Keep looking for childcare. This is not a good place, especially for babies. The place (university location) is dirty and they have very young and inexperienced girls working there. I did not feel it was a good place for my child, or anyone else's.

My son used to go to Happy Keiki. Then he transferred to Moilili Hongwanji which is just cross street in next block. We should have made this decision earlier. Happy keiki's day care is OK. I recommend not to send your kids to their preschool. (Moilili Hongwanji is highly recommended)
One more thing, there is no window in Happy Keiki. If one kid got sick, everyone got sick. My son was absent half time and staying home instead. Look at the bright side, he did build up his strong immune system in Happy Keiki. Lol.

After moving from the mainland we needed to find a school for my almost 3 year old. While the facility is just okay (not much outdoor space and no playground) the teachers make up for it. They embraced our child, helped potty train her and showed her love, patience and kindness. Exactly what I was looking for in a preschool. I found the director accommodating when I needed to switch days and always available for questions via phone or email. The price is significantly cheaper than surrounding schools and the school is year round with minimal days off. While my daughter is transitioning to a school

My daughter is going to the Hawaii Kai location while Calvary By the Sea is on a LONG 5-week summer break. She looves it -- more than Calvary. Teachers are happy and nice and my daughter comes out of the class smiling :) I really wanted a Montessori education but am finding out the best place is where your kid is happy -- and as a parent, you know when they are really happy. I found Hatsumi, the director, very accomodating. Good school, definitely recommended!

I don't know why people post bad reviews. My son has been going to Happy Keiki for a few months and he loves it. He comes home with art work, crafts and learning projects they do in class all the time. We wanted my son to play and enjoy his time here and interact with other kids! The teacher and staff are very kind and they have been there along time, compared to the turn over rate in those top premium schools in Honolulu. My husband and I are very happy with this daycare.

Not recommended at all. The director only cares about making money off of your child and not the growth and education of the child. There are other great preschools in our community that are very good that my other kids went to which are Calvary by the Sea, Kilohana, Hawaii Kai Baptist which were all great schools. I wanted to give this a try due to convenience and it backfired into my face.
It gets one star because the only great thing about the school was Ms. Kat who teaches Japanese to young kids. Otherwise, they didn't really teach much due to the director that doesn't pay well
