Welcome to Mark Spencer Hotel in Downtown Portland, OR, where we invite you to #StayLikeALocal. Our charming property is the ideal place to stay when looking to enjoy upscale accommodations in the heart of the city. Opened in 1907 as the Nortonia Hotel, the property became a hit with traveling theatre performers and celebrities looking for a stylish hotel close to the city's theatre district.
The hotel was rebranded in 1966 and renamed Mark Spencer Hotel, still retaining its intention to act as a home away from home for artists, performers, tourists, and business travelers looking to enjoy well-appointed accommodations, excellent services, and an unbeatable location. All available guest rooms and suites have been beautifully renovated and redesigned.

I really miss the old management. We stayed here two years ago and it was so nice back then. Rooms were sparkling clean. But now they have a cleaning crew that won’t clean off brown smudges from the walls at eye level. No more wine tasting. No more breakfast. A neat new thing they got going on is that they’re partnered with the tasty breakfast place next door for room service. I just wish they were available for early Sunday morning. Service didn’t start until 8AM. It’s not a terrible place to stay but it’s missing the coziness it once had. You might as well stay at a newer place with

Close to a lot of restaurants and stores - like Powell's City of Books. Walkable location. Our room was clean and comfortable, with a king size bed and an in room refrigerator and microwave. The dings would be no in room coffee maker, and a little loud from outside and very loud neighbors in the room next to us.

:) I choose deluxe king room with city view... and what I got is a room with the unwork heat, unwork phone( when I need to ask for something), unwork bathroom vent, and the worse one in the room next to you and upstair, you can hear clearly what they doing and talking! Couldnt sleep for a whole night
I used my selfphone to called and asked for another offer. 4 times. I dont want to blame on the front desk man cause he was very night but I dont recomment this place

Customer service is above and beyond! Very safe parking garage if you have a car with you. Small details like a luxury skincare brand for the bathroom products and someone outside offering to help with luggage. We observed the staff sanitizing everything and definitely being cautious. And you really can’t beat the location! Will be staying here again.

Excellent service.. from outside personnel to front desk, to housekeeping... Convenient location, under ground parking at a very reasonable rate. Comfortable clean, quiet room..(we had a room with a kitchen area that was stocked with silver, plates, cups, stove top, etc.) Priced right. Highly recommend.

My favorite downtown location next to amazing restaurants and shops easy walk to the waterfront. Super helpful staff, spacious room I was able to work from and fast Internet. I didn’t have any problem with video calls. I prefer a slightly firmer mattress but the topper is very comfortable. We felt very looked after thank you to the lovely staff they made a big difference to our stay

I had a great visit at the Mark Spencer Hotel! Brad at the front desk was very friendly and welcoming! My room was towards the backend of the hotel, so it stayed nice and quiet. The room and bathroom were clean which is most important to me in a hotel! The bed was very comfortable and I appreciated all the extra pillows. The parking was conveniently located right across the street. Also tons of restaurants and shops in walking distance too! Hope to stay here again sometime!

We chose the Mark Spencer hotel specifically for its downtown location in Portland and the huge hospitality suite with a large table and sitting area, allowing us to spread out and socially distance ourselves to remain safe - despite being vaccinated - during the pandemic as we ordered and brought food in.
The accommodations in the three rooms we reserved - the hospitality suite and the two master suites - were wonderful. The master suites were recently renovated and spacious. They had a separate bedroom and a nice sitting area with a well-equipped kitchenette. The hospitality suite had a separate

For being one of the more expensive hotels downtown with a good reputation, I can't ever imagine staying here again. The number 1 problem is that the building is very old and the walls are ludicrously thin for a hotel.
Our first night there were located next door to a couple who started partying with lots of yelling and loud music around 10pm. We tried our best to ignore it, but found it very difficult to stay asleep for long. By 4 am, the couple shifted to fighting, with lots of yelling about suspected fidelity issues. Yes, we could make out every word they were saying. The walls are that

We had the best time at this hotel this weekend. The room was clean it was a great location. But what really made our hotel a wonderful stay was the front desk service! Joel greeted us with so much positive energy that we felt very welcomed to the property! He went out of his way to let us know what restaurants were close by. And even gave us a doggy treats for our two little doggie guests. Because of his amazing service, we will be back!

Stayed here for 3 nights during our visit to Portland. When we arrived, the lady who helped us with check-in was very nice. However, check-in took much longer than anticipated due to problems with the card-reader. Also, sadly due to Covid, many amenities were unavailable. Upon check-in, we were told that there was no housekeeping, no continental breakfast, no tea/coffee/cookies for the afternoon, and no wine reception. While this is definitely understandable due to the Covid situation, it would be nice to have these changes noted prior to booking.

I had booked a room for two nights a couple months in advance. A week or so before my check-in date I received an email saying my reservation was canceled. I called and, due to a computer glitch, I was informed I would have to rebook. After a couple mins of arguing, I was able to get my room back at the same rate.
Fast forward to my travel date, I landed in Portland from Sacramento and proceeded to get a taxi to The Mark Spencer Hotel (where I had a reservation... or so I thought). As I was checking in, I was told my reservation was canceled, but this time without an email notification. I had

I am very displeased with this hotel. Myself and another stayed here for three nights, and our nights themself were fantastic. This hotel is very conveniently placed. But one night upon returning to our room, leaving the elevator we heard a loud door slam and thought ‘that’s strange,’ and we rounded the corner to see our room door was open. Let’s… put this out there, we were drunk. We cautiously go in and find our things displaced, and our food eaten. After panicking a few moments, we were easy to write it off as us being intoxicated and not remember we had just been

Horrible experience i got a complaint at 8pm that I was too loud when I didn’t even have music playing. Walls are thin hotel sucks! Breakfast is embarrassing only bread and hard boiled egg! Over all terrible experience! Don’t book this hotel unless your 65 and older and don’t plan on doing anything unless sleeping. Hotel sucks!

From the time we checked in, service was excellent. I forgot to bring my toothbrush so I asked where the nearest store I can buy, and the concierge provided not only the toothbrush but several tubes of toothpaste too. Then, we were at the main lobby, waiting for our tour, hubby asked for a hand lotion which I left at the hotel room, and I didn’t… want to go back to the room to get it, so again I went to the concierge and I just asked if they have any, and of course they do, and handed me the small bottle of lotion! Saved me from going back to our room. Excellent service all the way

Overall, I would recommend the Mark Spencer Hotel. I picked this hotel primarily due to its location to restaurants and public transportation. Even though check-in was at 4pm, my room was ready at 1:30. I found the staff very friendly and helpful. Just as an FYI, if you use the hotel lobby restroom, the toilet is a bidet! The toilet seat is warmed and features are fun to experiment with.
Pros:
- Free cookies - They offer chocolate chip, macadamia, and coconut cookies every day between 3 and 6pm. Would have liked to see alternative cookie options, but they were free, so you can't complain

Was in town for one night on business. I realize this is a boutique hotel but that's not an excuse for extremely poor noise insulation for a room. I swore it sounded like airplanes flying over top of my room every 10 to 20 minutes only to find out that it was the street cars on the tracks. They gave me a first-floor room, maybe that was the problem. In any event, there is absolutely no way I would ever go back.
I did give it an extra star because the staff was very friendly and the sheets on the bed were excellent. That's it!
