Dr. Dave Huff graduated from the NC State CVM in May of 1989. He practiced at a small animal facility for 2 years in Pennsylvania and then returned to North Carolina to practice small animal and large animal at Neuse River Veterinary Hospital in Wendell. He also practiced for 4 years at a small animal practice in Beaufort, South Carolina, and then returned to Neuse River Veterinary Hospital in 1999.
Estrogen is the hormone that causes the bitch to act receptive. Estrogen causes the vulvar swelling, the bleeding, and the changes in the vagina that many veterinarians use to do "smears." In the average bitch, estrogen rises anywhere from 4 to 20 days before ovulation. Because of this very wide range, estrogen levels are only a very rough estimate of when the bitch will be fertile.
We do have the capability of storing semen. If you are preparing for a frozen surgical breeding go ahead and plan accordingly to have your sample shipped to us. It is your responsibility to contact the stud owner, and have the semen shipped to our hospital. We can received shipments M-F. We are closed on the weekends.
Our hospital does offer collection of the stud and overnight shipping of fresh chilled semen. We prefer that you have an in heat female to use as a "teaser." We understand that it is not always possible to have one available. Some times we use a female that is not in heat, and we can swab an estrus scent on her.

The staff at Plantation are the best. My older female Great Dane developed a tumor that needs to be removed. Natalie made an appointment for her to see Dr Dave before I took her to NC State. Natalie and Dr Dave made my decision for easy to have Plantation do the surgery. They both are very professional and compassionate about their clients. I feel very comfortable putting my girl in their hands.

I have been hesitant about letting my pup go in to a vet clinic without me (Covid restrictions) but my most recent technician Brandy eased my worries away. This was my first time meeting her and she was exceptional! She was very sweet and personable, and treated me and my fur baby like she had known us forever rather than just asking a list of questions like we have experienced in the past. I normally do not post on here but this experience stood out to me. Great service and affordable treatment.

The staff took excellent care of our Golden doddle. Our only complaint was that I dropped him off at 8:30 am and he didn't receive his dental surgery until late afternoon. We had to leave him overnight instead of bringing him home after surgery. We always get the best of care for our pups at this place!

We have taken our lab here for 10 years. Last Friday I took her for sick visit, her tummy wasn’t well she was very lethargic and wouldn’t eat. I was concerned. Of course she acted fine when we got there… because she loves to visit them. She feels safe obviously, and they treat her well. Dr Huff is who she saw , he immediately knew what was and wrong gave us antibiotics and probiotics and she’s feeling sooo much better! Dr. Causey we have seen for most of her well checks. She is very thorough and you can tell she cares. EVERYONE IS AWESOME! Happy Dog, Happy Mom! ❤

Took our very stubborn, large and scared dog for an appointment due to a split toenail...when we got there, asked if they could do her annual exam and shots since we missed that due to COVID. They were extremely patient with her and allowed me to walk her to the door to get her in. Got her all fixed up and 45 minutes later she walked out smiling! We’ve been taking out animals here for 17+ years and really appreciate all the time and attention they’ve given to our babies!

These guys are awesome. We called yesterday and booked our appointment for today. We were in and out in no time. Fur baby is patched up and already feeling better. It was our first experience here, but we will… definitely be using Plantation Animal Hospital for all our fur baby medical needs. A very gracious "Thank You" to all the staff.
