Services
Chopyak-Scheider Funeral Home, Inc. has been serving the Greater Binghamton area since 1931. We are located centrally in Broome County, within the rich historical area of the First Ward of Binghamton. Founded by Mrs. Joseph (Susan) Chopyak, a licensed New York State Undertaker and Embalmer, the funeral home had initially primarily served the Eastern European immigrant population which resided in the surrounding locale.
Many people today still choose an earth burial or entombment in order to have a physical place where they may return for future visits and the comfort of knowing where the remains of their loved ones are. The future visits assist them in the total grief/adjustment process. Today, a traditional funeral is anything but traditional.
Many families are choosing cremation as an alternative to burials more often than they did in the past. Many families will move many times during their lifetime and do not have a "hometown" anymore. Also cremation is now accepted as a choice of disposition by the Roman Catholic Church. Some people believe that cremation offers more options than a traditional burial - flexibility in timing, format of the service, and cost.
At the Chopyak-Scheider Funeral Home, our staff is trained to handle the details of making burial and cremation arrangements for veterans. Did you know that military honors are available to all veterans regardless of rank or location of burial? And, were you aware that the military does not accept payment for these services under any circumstance?
Families will sometimes opt for a simple graveside service for their loved one. At the Chopyak-Scheider Funeral Home, we understand a need for simplicity, but we also recognize the need for closure in order to begin the healing process. We recommend that you take some time to create a graveside service that will honor your loved one.

Bill handled the funeral of my sister with care and compassion. From pre-planning, to picking her body up in a late night storm, to cremation, selection of urns, paperwork, and follow through ....he made the entire process so much more bearable. Everything was handled quickly, efficiently, professionally and I am grateful for his kind care of my sister.

Our family could not have asked for more from six years ago when we preplanned his funeral, fast forward six years when we got the call that my father in law had passed away. He needed to be transported, issues with scheduling with third parties and working with the inclement weather, Bill and his wife did it all creating a calm in the midst of a stressful and sad situation. Yes, there are other choices and we have had experiences with them, there is no comparison. Call them, the last wonderful thing you can do for your love one! They were beyond wonderful!

Bill Scheider, the owner, was extremely helpful when my mother-in-law suddenly died. He took care of the cremation, notification of social security, and the viewing. He didn't try to push us into spending more than we had intended by talking us into add-ons or upgrades. The facility was very nice with offstreet parking and easy access from the highway. Bill was very accomodating and we would highly recommend this funeral home to anyone.
