The origin of Kung Fu begins with the legend of a warrior caste Indian monk named Bodhidharma (also known as Ta Mo) who traveled from India to China around 526 A.D. It is said that he visited Shaolin monks in the Hunan Province. While there, Bodhidharma awed the resident Chinese monks with his mastery of meditation.

The secret was in breath control, building and storing Chi energy and physical discipline which Bodhidharma saw lacking in the monks. He trained them in exercises designed to strengthen the body and their endurance. This series of exercises the monks used evolved into Kung Fu. We teach the system of traditional Northern Shaolin Lohan Kung Fu, Tai Chi Chuan, Qigong Healing, and 18 Lohan Qigong.

To reach development of the mind and spirit through the discipline of the body. The Shaolin Monks studied the movements of animals and found that they could be applied to human bio-mechanics and ultimately various systems grew out of these discoveries. The Shaolin paradox is the following: one is taught to defend one's self, which may result in a violent act of self defense.
Self defense, Shuai-Jiao, Chin-na, traditional forms, weapons and fighting are taught with emphasis on well-rounded martial arts development. Hard Chi Kung and Iron Body training toughen the student in our program. Experience the ultimate in physical fitness and become a skilled and focused martial artist!
In other words people are being taught the internal, soft, energy building side of the system. Tai Chi Chuan, or taijiquan, is an ancient Chinese form of coordinated body movements focusing on the cultivation of internal energy 'chi' or 'qi'. Its aim is to harmonize the mind, body and spirit, promoting both mental and physical well-being through softness and relaxation.
Chi Kung ( pronounced chee gung ) means energy work/practice. At Shaolin Kung Fu Studios we practice the 18 Lohan Qi Gong. It is an ancient Chinese health and wellness modality; a system of physical exercise and breath use and control. It is the science of chi energy in its ultimate form where the practitioner develops the ability to build, store and move chi energy, at will, within and even outside the body.
