Tenchi Aikido of Somerset is dedicated to O'Sensei's true purpose for Aikido as a path to peace and wholeness through Body-Mind-Spirit integration, and connection to the larger community. We are committed to the holistic instruction and practice of Aikido which incorporates technical and philosophical teachings, and the real life, "off-the-mat, " day-to-day applications of Aikido.

T.R.I. is the primary reason Tenchi Aikido was created and why we continue the practice. While Aikido is a powerful and effective martial art with potent self-defense techniques, we are passionate about, and committed to O'Sensei's vision for Aikido as a budo or path to being. We believe the true value of Aikido can be gained "off the mat" and into life.
Sheila and Jeffrey continue to train at ASNJ. Additionally, Sheila and Jeffrey teach at ASNJ, with Sheila having taught Adults and helping out with Children's classes, and Jeffrey having taught both Children and Adults. Jeffrey was also part-time assistant or soto deshi to Shihan Stickles. When they are able to, Sheila and Jeffrey love visiting other dojos to train.
We will emphasize conflict avoidance and getting out of the way, falling and receiving attacks safely, and basic body movement, footwork, & techniques. We promote the spirit of cooperation not competition, and help students build their connection with, and respect for others.
We develop physical fitness, coordination, balance, awareness of body, as well as building self-discipline, focus, self-esteem, awareness of surroundings, and learning to be calm in a stressful situation. Most importantly we want kids to know practicing a martial art can be practical, effective, and fun.

Teachers are superb! They know the techniques but also very friendly. They are focused and keep the attention of their students very well which is key. Environment feels like its a place that you can practice, learn, be creative, and have fun without judgement. Highly recommend for any parents looking to enroll their kids in martial arts.

I've been attending classes for a few months now, and I must say that it's been quite the experience!
First off, the instructors are exceptional. They're very knowledgeable about techniques, and demonstrate both the martial and meditative practices of Aikido during practice. I've learned a lot about self defense and self reflection during my time here.
Next, the classes are very family-oriented. I think this is the only place where I have seen a mother and daughter use techniques on each other in a martial arts class.
If you're looking to try out a martial art and you're around the area, I highly
