I am beyond happy with the haircut, highlights and toner I got done at HI LITES SALON by MICHELLE. Michelle listened to my desires and concerns, looked at pictures I brought and created a style that is better that what I had hoped for. I was so tired of my long, lifeless, dry hair, I had to have a change. I couldn't have been blessed with a better stylist. She understood my hair structure and it's needs, as well as my desire for change and created perfection. She also took time to explain to me how to style it myself in future. Super happy. 10 stars 🌟

EDIT: I absolutely hate my hair now! All the curls fell out since yesterday so I decided to straighten it today, and it is so choppy I hate it. And no matter how much I straighten it it will not lay flat! He didn't thin the bottom at all! Now I'm embarrassed of my hair and feel like I should have waited till December when I went home to see my normal stylist to get it cut. I want to cry right now I can't do anything with my hair now! This is awful!

This is from a few months ago, but I just wanted to say how amazing my experience was there. My hairstylist was Michelle and, as I am new to the area, I was very reluctant to have someone I was unfamiliar with do my hair. She was incredibly professional and so kind and she did a great job. I've been to many stylists that haven't listened when I explained what I wanted, but Michelle wasn't like that at all. For the first time in my life, I had someone listen to me and ask questions about my hair goals and provide me relevant feedback and suggestions. I initially told her I didn't want very much

Sydney is awesome! I am always pretty anxious to get my hair done, let alone try a new place but I'm so glad I went here! My hair can be a little tricky sometimes and Sydney was so great at listening and discussing what the right approach would be. She even said she would fix anything if I felt like it wasn't perfect - (that really helped bc I am always second guessing myself at the end of a hair appointment lol). I am super happy with my full highlights and toner- Mahalo Sydney!

So this place has really become a hit and miss for me. I love the actual salon, it's very nice and clean inside. Everyone there is very sweet and friendly, especially the owner Jenne.
My issue is with the service. I've brought my kids here a couple times before for haircuts without any issues, we just made our appointments for whoever was available first to cut their hair. We all walked away happy with the haircuts each time. However, the same couldn't be said for myself.

I went for a partial highlight and cut. My experience was great! My stylist, Abby went above and beyond to fix a bad color job (made the mistake of going elsewhere for convenience) Abby is thorough, knows hair and color and gives the best scalp massages! Mahalo to all at Hi-lites! I walked out of there feeling and looking amazing.

Another wonderful session with Kanai'a! The last session with her was ten months ago and due to the subtle technique she used, the balayage highlights still looked decent. I went back for a refresher and she did her magic again. For a lazy hair person who doesn't even brush my hair sometimes, she makes it look good and keeps it low maintenance. Thank you!

You know you need a haircut whenever you spot a pair of scissors (or two) and wonder what it'd be like to pick them up and just start snip, snip, snipping away. Love this salon! Michelle is your girl! I made a last minute appointment for the next day, hoping to remedy my blonde hair back to life as soon as possible. She was attentive and thorough, achieving the end result for which I'd hoped. Nice, friendly staff! Clean salon, laid back and comfortable atmosphere. Highly recommend this salon!

It had been over a year since I had my haircut, so it was in need of a bit of help and revitalization. After some reading of reviews of other salons and stylists in the area, I ended up booking an appointment with Takuji. He was great, has 20+ years in the business so definitely knows what he's doing, listened to what I wanted, made suggestions for when I didn't know what I wanted, and provided some tips on styling. My hair is long, fine, and straight. He was able to give my hair more life and shape it so that it had more volume, and also that worked with my low-maintenance hair approach

I went here on a Saturday for a womens haircut. It was quite busy. The girl at the front desk was not friendly or welcoming at all, she just handed me the covid release to sign. I really don't know why there are such great reviews about the service here because to be quite honest, everyone was pretty rude, stared at other stylists while they worked, and gave certain stylists stink eye or disapproving looks. My stylist was even bossed around and was treated rudely in front of me. He was about to ring me up and another stylist approached him and reprimanded him about my hair being on the floor

OMG!! This is only the 2nd review I have ever left but I felt I had to! Takuji was amazing! My hair was damaged and needed a lot of help. He listed to what I wanted and treated my hair as if it was gold. He even did a deep conditioning just because my hair needed even though I didn't ask for it and didn't charge me. I don't get my hair cut/colored often but I may more often now. I have never been this happy after getting my hair cut and highlighted. I will only be going to his salon while station in Hawaii.

I have (fake) platinum blonde hair that I color at home, but it was severely damaged by a stylist on the mainland about a year ago, leaving me with a lot of breakage, especially on the back of my head. I tried covering that with hair extensions...and then Covid came along. I ended up at home developing a mess of dried out miniature dreadlocks - not pretty! Not being able to get to a salon, I took the extensions out by myself, and I was horrified by my hair. What there was of it seemed so damaged and thin, and every time I touched it, more and more was falling out. It was awful!

I had my hair done back in August and let me tell how much I need to. Looking at the before and after pic says it all. I got my luscious locks done by Nanea and she is the ONLY hair stylist I've ever had that made me so comfortable while doing my hair that I nodded off in the chair. She doesn't make you feel ashamed or ridiculed for having not gotten your hair done sooner. I've been to salons where they talk down and lecture you, rather than educate.

Talk about great customer service!! Today I decided ramdomly that I wanted a haircut. So I decided to look on Yelp. I reached out to Hi-Lites Salon via Yelp to schedule an appointment. The owner was quick to respond and even though they were closed today the owner Jenne offered to come in and give me a haircut! I am so appreciative. It is always nervewracking to go to somebody new to cut your hair but looking at the reviews and pictures I felt like this was a safe choice. Hi Lites Salon in Kailua is WOW!!! On vacation, I walked-in to get THE best hi-lites ever! They still look so amazing. While I waited for my hair to process I noticed a rather plain girl getting her hair cut. Later, as she stood up to go, I was surprised to see a very beautiful girl leaving. What shocked me the most was that only her hair had changed. With her new hairstyle, her face literally glowed and she was anything but plain. This salon delivers!!!!

I've had my hair done by three of the amazing stylists here. Kanaia is incredible and meticulous. I've seen her a few times for cut and babylites. My hair few out beautifully with her work.
When she was unavailable, Patrick was awesome and gave me a great cut. I skipped adding color because I was so happy with the grow out.
This time Abby worked some color magic and made my mermaid hair dreams come true. I loooove how it turned out!! She left it nice and long only trimming the ends just like I hoped. Also, the scalp massage was just what I needed. Thanks, girl!

I love Hi-Lites Kailua! I travel from California to Hawaii just to get my hair done by Jenne. As a hairstylist-I'm super picky and I've only let Jenne touch my hair. Jenne is amazingly talented and hires to her high standard. Every single stylist there is not only amazing, but very warm and friendly.
