Amazing service and even better results! I've always wanted to get deep red highlights and I'm so glad I finally decided to do it, and that I very luckily found this place (it was one of the only hair salons open in New Haven on a Sunday afternoon). They were able to do it without bleaching my hair, which I really appreciated, and it came out exactly the way I wanted. They really made my dreams come true! And they are very lovely people. Had a men haircut that cost 38 dollars (including tax and tips) which I reckon is rather reasonable given the time and attention for the haircut.
If I have to nitpick, the washing of hair was rather rough and I would prefer if they cut it according to the picture which I showed them (however I still liked the end product)
Will definitely be visiting this place again

I wanted to get my hair done, just a wash and straighten. As soon as I ask they noticed my hair was curly and told me that they couldn’t do and didn’t know how to straighten curly hair. What kind of hair salon doesn’t know how to preform hair straightening on curly hair??

This hair salon is operated by a super nice couple. I like how much they paid attention to small details and they weren’t rushing at all. I’m really happy with the outcome.

went in for a male's haircut and was asked for a photo as a reference. i don't have asian hair, actually quite the opposite. jack paid great attention to detail and gave me one of my best haircuts i've had. it's clear this business only hires the best of the best and the employees take great pride in their work, will be coming back!

Finally found a place that can cut asian hair!!! The guy, I'm assuming the owner, did such a great job adding layers and dimension to my hair. He was meticulous and even though he doesn't speak english he was able to give me the haircut that I wanted. I've been to so many american salons and none of them could cut it the way I want so I'm so happy I found this place.

New to this area and saw the reviews that Jack knows how to cut asian hair! I called to make an appointment and was told the price was $55 , which included tip. (Cash only!) I was a little concerned that the it was a little pricey, but decided to go. Jack only speaks Chinese but we managed with my minimal Mandarin. I had waist length hair and he washed and cut it so nicely! It ended up being shorter than I initially wanted but I love how it turned out! I was there for over an hour and he really took his time and meticulously cut every strand of hair. I never felt rushed. I love the end product

Forget the language barrier. It's a non-issue when you have your hair cut by Jack. My hair is very fine and Jack gave me the best haircut that I have had in years, perhaps ever. He is meticulous and actually assesses your hair type and the best way to deal with it. I live about 50 minutes from New Haven. It is well worth the trip here for a master barber. I could go on, but my statements would only be rephrasing superlatives. Jack is a true artist.

Omg !! Ladies be careful when you go here! This is my second time going to Jack and I'm livid!!!

1) I asked for long layers and he end up cutting my hair up to my shoulders. Soooooo soooo short to the point the maintenance is double bc I have to straighten it everyday or it will poke out everywhere!!! To make it worse how he can F^* up soo baddd?????? I showed Jack a picture of the haircut that I wanted and it ended up looking like something else!!!!

2) Tips are mandatory $10!!!! Ladies haircut is $40 but his wife told me it's $50. This is my second time so I knew it's not right

I've been going to Shiny salon for many years. Jack is very talented, detailed and reliable. The shop is also very family friendly. My 4 year old son just got his first haircut there today- look how happy he is! I highly recommend this place.

This place is aMaZiNg! For some background I am an Asian girl with typical Asian girl hair texture, not everyone knows how to cut my hair, it's very thick. I have been getting my haircuts from Jack for the last four years, even though I'm currently in Atlanta - it is very much worth the visit home every three/four months! Jack is thoughtful, patient, talented, and he takes pride in his work.

Not only is Jack an expert at styling and layering thicker Asian hair, his haircuts age exceptionally well. Unlike the haircuts I have tried at other Asian salons, which tend to become scruffy and unkempt once the hair starts to grow out, Jack's haircuts will hold their shape and layers even three months later.

I got a good cut from Jack but the color is awful. I've both used salons for coloring and done it myself for over 30 years and have never had such bad results. The highlights start a good 3/4's of an inch from my head!

I came in with the worst haircut I have had since I let my grandma give me a boy cut when I was 5. My attempted short, sleek bob cut has become the worst kind of throwback to the 80's. The ends of my hair flipped out like a roller coaster, even after several attempts with the straightener. The worst part was that it was only the case for half of my hair.

Jack looked at my hair and said that he can possibly fix it. He said he can for sure make it look better than it was then. I was desperate and that was a good enough answer.
