Sports physical therapy starts with a thorough assessment and understanding of the injury. Then, it is important to know where the athlete is in their training/competitive season. With an understanding of the injury and timeline to return competition, the therapist will develop specific goals and measures for safe return to sport.
Dave and his team were fantastic in helping me recover from shoulder surgery. Super knowledgable, thoughtful, flexible with timing, and eager to work with your goals vs a standard template. They also don't try to put you on a super frequent program, as many PTs do. Valerie and David took care of me after my knee replacement surgery.

Therapeutic exercise is the systematic and planned performance of body movements or exercises which aims to improve and restore physical function. Whether you are a profession an athlete, a competitive triathlete or a weekend warrior, an injury can be a frustrating roadblock to achieving your goals.
Manual therapy describes those "hands on" techniques we use to improve patient outcomes. These techniques include joint mobilization, joint manipulation, soft tissue mobilization (massage) and myofascial release. These techniques allow the therapist to decrease pain, improve range of motion (ROM), decrease tissue inflammation, improve soft tissue repair, facilitate movement and improve function.

I had ankle pain while I ran for the last couple years and couldn't seem to find what the issue was. I also used to be a 50-70 mile/week runner, so limiting myself to 3 miles per run due to the pain was frustrating. After an in depth one hour running assessment, David was confident he knew what the issue was. I took up his suggestions and immediately noticed less pain during my first run. After just one month, I now have no ankle pain and am already ramping up my mileage. Thanks Dave!

Absolutely outstanding in every way. In November I was diagnosed with a debilitating C6 / C7 disc issue that we had cost me the use of my left arm and was creating a significant amount of pain. Working with Dr. Weinstein at Harborview and Magnolia PT I have been able to "work" my way back to almost full health with 95% mobility in the arm and almost no pain. This is coming from a place where I had been advised surgery was a likelihood.
MPT is qualified and professional in every way. They have been SUPER careful about COVID and keep the health and welfare of their patients as their primary concern

First, Therapist staff is excellent, concerned, listen and take time to educate and heal their clients. I have worked with Dave on a few issues in the past and looked forward to doing so again. Ethan was new to me and was excellent through the course of treatment. No complaints, only praise from me.
If you have billing issues, be ready.
On the first visit for my current PT need, I worked with the office staff to update my insurance changes in their system. In later visits, the admin staff initiated and verified the insurance information.
When billed, the old, insurance company was billed.

I was initially hesitant to try physical therapy, but after months of shoulder pain I finally decided I needed some help with my healing. I booked in with Ethan and after my first appointment I was feeling a lot more confident about getting to a place of recovery. For the first time in quite a while I was hopeful. He has an incredible ability to explain where your pain is coming from, and what the exercise and massage is meant to accomplish. He asked questions and really listened to what I had to say.  Now I am in a much better place and I'm actually glad that I injured myself, because

I have been to several physical therapy facilities in Seattle over the past 20 years. My experience with physical therapy had been absolute torture until an injured back brought me to Magnolia Physical Therapy. I received a complete analysis and was given exercises to work on. I love that fact that my exercises are on my iPhone, so I can bring them with me anywhere. Magnolia Physical Therapy has restored my faith in PT. They have a number of dedicated professionals and give you a plan to reach your goals. I am extremely grateful to them for restoring me. Try them out. You will not be disappointed

Friends recommended Magnolia Physical Therapy and I'm glad they did. Having been a patient of the other PT practice in Magnolia as well as one of the major health care organizations downtown, I was hoping for "better" - and with Magnolia PT to say my expectations have been exceeded is an understatement. Dr. Self is someone involved pretty much everywhere around Magnolia, and that says a lot about the commitment of Magnolia PT to our community. Dr. Clevenger has been incredibly helpful in taking a long term, painful injury and moving me toward an excellent outcome. Her knowledge and

I first met Dave Self in 2015 when he treated my husband for a shoulder injury. We were heading out on a trip within a few weeks and my husband was in so much pain and in no condition to travel. I contacted Dave and despite his office being closed over the weekend he offered to see my husband on a Sunday and opened his office to treat him. In my opinion, this speaks volumes about a persons character. As a result, when I needed physical therapy for a head injury and ongoing headaches that did not go away after 2 years of treatment by other medical professionals I sought treatment with Dave. Within

Kailey Campbell is an excellent therapist. She is professional yet friendly so that an hour workout seems to fly by. I felt very confident in her abilities after the first visit and have continued to be impressed with her knowledge.
I had a total reverse shoulder replacement which is a hard surgery to regain range of motion. I know I would not be able to use my arm and shoulder as I do without Kailey’s expertise and guidance.

Molly was really a great PT. I came to Molly after having seen 3 physicians that all diagnosed me with having a pulled hamstring. The diagnosis did not seem right to me and their treatment (stretching my hamstring) was not improving my problem for about 6 months. My co-workers (some M.D. rehabilitation specialists) encouraged me to see a PT. I saw Molly and in about 10 minutes she knew exactly what was wrong with me.
I was really scared because at the time I worked in rehabilitation research and I knew just enough about my problem (SI joint) to be fearful about a potential chronic condition.

I want to recommend Dave Self as a physical therapist. He helped me with some injuries related to running. He gave me a thorough assessment and a comprehensive approach to treating my issues. He was helpful analyzing my running stride and taught me to run more efficiently. This along with a few helpful treatments and I am moving down the road. Thanks Dave.

Magnolia Physical Therapy is a major reason why I am traveling while I write this review! Staying home and resting is not an option. Dave Self has years of experience at identifying exactly what is causing my issues. This time my hips were weak and my gluteus needed strength. Just a couple days of exercises and my walking gait was super smooth again. Honestly, I only go to MPT when a body part speaks up. Dave is very efficient and easy to understand. He explains what is wrong and what I must do; and then I am good to go! I simply cannot say enough great things about MPT and Dave Self!

Dave Self opened this new clinic in Magnolia August 2015. He lives in the neighborhood, and has been a Doctor in Physical Therapy for many years. He also does Running Assessments to improve form and function for people of all ages and abilities to run better and more efficiently.
I went to Dave several years ago when he was at another clinic which he originally founded. He then left and was working elsewhere. But now he is back with a brand new clinic located on 32nd Ave W, just north of the Albertson's grocery store, and directly across from the public swimming pool.
Dave is awesome
