The Gasthaus is Louisville's truly authentic German Restaurant. Family owned and operated since 1993. Michael and Annemarie Greipel and their five children, all born and raised in Germany, provide a warm and welcoming atmosphere, while serving the best authentic German cuisine, as well as German beers and wines.

Annemarie's home made Desserts have been described as" works of art" and have had rave-reviews from newspapers and magazines. Annemarie, a self taught baker, takes great pride in creating many delicious "Torten" like Schwarzwaelder Kirschtorte (Blackforest Cake) and fine pastries. The ambience at the Gasthaus is enhanced as much by the authentic surroundings as by the authentic cuisine.

Flavor explosion ! once ya eat here it will make sense how they have stayed open so long. Some of the best food wife and I have had. Staff are super friendly and very clean and good service. You have to make a reservation and I would go early before the awesome deserts are gone too!
Price is on point for the quality of food, the proportion, and level of service.

Great experience. The decor is well done, serving sizes are large. Reservations are recommend, they are having a staffing shortage due to COVID. We had some German beers and a great time .

Showed up without a reservation and was seated promptly. Waiter had only been there a week; but, was efficient once he got in his groove (multiple tables being seated at the same time).
Green bean soup was the soup of the day. Slightly different from what I'm used to- had excellent flavor and hearty.
Rouladen was my entree with kartoffelknoëdel (potato dumplings).
All entrees ordered were great.
Only disappointment was dessert. Black forest cake was lacking in flavor and the cake was dry.
One of my favorite restaurants. Even with the forgettable dessert the meal deserves 5 stars.

When I visited they had no tables available, but I decided to wait. So by starters please reserve or come in early (maybe late they might have some tables). IT IS WORTH IT! I personally waited because I truly wanted a German experience... The staff is all dressed up so you feel in Oktoberfest even in a different season. I had my personal allergy request and they gladly even asked at the kitchen to ensure everything was fine, my personal requests were not only attended, but expectations were surpassed by these guys. I wouldn't be able to tell you that this is a true German place because I'm not

This place never disappoints. I’ve been here several times and think it’s one of my favorite restaurants in Louisville. The food is always superb and very authentic. The desserts are out of this world good. The staff is always friendly and helpful. Do yourself a favor and make a reservation now. You can thank me later.

Truly a 5 star restaurant. Where do I even start. Make sure you reserve yourself a Napoleon. Even if you are not a dessert person you will need to experience it. The German food here is quite possibly the best I've had. If not the best it's definitely runner up. What a gem for the Louisville area.

What an experience!!!!! Love the quaint feeling old world style of this establishment! It was great speaking to the owner and matriarch of this family business while we dined.

Food ⭐⭐⭐⭐ 1/2 (well executed presentation and plating was excellent. Portion size excellent. I felt the plates were a little pricy and needed a little extra to get a full 5 stars)
Overall Experience ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
They had an impressive wine and beer list. Many will love this aspect of the experience and go over the top. My wife and I neither are

Great food. We went on a Friday night and didn't realize we should have gotten a reservation. Fortunately they had an extra table that evening. Make one if you go on the weekend!
We had some salads, the potato soup, weiner schnitzel, and the special a summer chicken. All were very good and to my less than trained German palate, seemed to be very authentic. The schnitzel had a creamy sauce with a touch of sweetness that I couldn't stop soaking up.
For dessert we had a chocolate cake of some sort and an apple strudel. The strudel was incredible! My wife loved the cake as well.
