Estate Planning Law Group
Estate planning is a critical part of your financial security. A comprehensive estate plan is the only way to create legally enforceable relationships that protect you, your family, and your property. These legal relationships firmly establish who will manage your property, the persons who will receive your property, and how it will be used, in the event of your death or incapacity.

Estate Administration is the process of distributing a deceased person's assets. There are several ways to distribute such property, including probate and trust administration. If you need help to distribute an estate, we can guide you through the legal requirements. Please contact us with any questions.
Services
Estate Planning Law Group is a small law firm located in Cascade Township, near Grand Rapids, Michigan. EPLG was started in 1994 by attorney John Tamboer after he served five years in the US Navy (JAGC). John has been practicing in the areas of estate planning and estate administration since that time.
Our office is located in this building at the intersection of Cascade Road and I-96 in Grand Rapids. From I-96, take exit 40 and proceed east on Cascade Road. Turn left on Kenmoor Avenue (first left after the exit). Our parking lot entrance is on Kenmoor Avenue just north of the intersection with Cascade Road.
To draft your estate plan, we must gather detailed information from you. Our Estate Planning Worksheet is designed to make this step as simple as possible. The worksheet will help you to organize your thoughts, and provide us with all of the information we need to prepare for our consultation. After you submit a worksheet, you will be directed to our online calendar to schedule an appointment to discuss your estate plan with an attorney.
This section contains an overview of estate planning options, including Core Estate Plans and Optional Trusts. Each Core Estate Plan includes all essential estate planning documents and services at a simple flat fee. A "hybrid" estate plan which includes a will and a separate living trust to manage property for children.
There is no cost or obligation for this consultation. We offer six types of Core Estate Plans and six types of Optional Trusts - all of which can be mixed and matched together to achieve a desired result. Therefore, answering the question "How much does an estate plan cost?" is not always simple. We have provided the Cost Estimate Worksheet below so that you can review our fees.

Our estate planning felt like a fairly easy process. Everything was explained at a high level but detail was provided when asked. This was fairly pricey, but first time doing estate planning so not quite sure how it compares to others locally. We didn't get a bunch of quotes as we liked this group we met with. They were responsive, most things could be done online, and very little work on our end. Worth the money!

Had John Tamboer and his team draft our estate plan in 2016. We needed to make some changes, and we restated our plan this past month. John's advice was valuable, his team provided documents in a timely manner, and we were able to draft the plan quickly and efficiently. Communication was good and we have a plan that is practical, easy to understand, and perfectly suited to our needs. I highly recommend the team at the Estate Planning Law Group for any estate planning needs you may have.

In 2009 my wife and I went to a seminar put on by an attorney in Grand Rapids who specialized in “Elder Law,” and we contracted with him to prepare a Trust for our situation. Recently, I discovered that he had lost his law license for what appeared to me to be fraud. I went to a personal friend who practices criminal law in Grand Rapids and he recommended John Tambour as being totally honest and completely competent in estate law. It was clear with only a cursory review that our current Trust did not accomplish for us what we had been led to believe it would. It was not even in compliance with
