Chapel Hill
Our mission is to partner with families of children from diverse backgrounds to respect and honor childhood, celebrate independence, and support children as they learn and grow through play. Organized as a parent cooperative in 1960, we still maintain our cooperative philosophy and rely on parent volunteers and community donations to enhance the learning environment for our children.

We are proud of our history as the first integrated preschool in the south and strive to continue this legacy by promoting diversity and equity in our classrooms. CHCP is Chapel Hill's longest running independent, non-profit preschool and one of just a handful of 5-star rated, NAEYC accredited preschools in town.
Services
My name is Alyson Marguerat and it is an honor to be joining the CHCP community as the Executive Director. I grew up in the Raleigh area and attended East Carolina University where I earned my bachelor's degree in Family Community Services with a focus on Child Development and Psychology. Following graduation, I moved to Chicago and enjoyed every minute of my 17 years there before returning back to my Raleigh roots just over a year ago.
Through the support of our friends, families, and local businesses, our dream of having our own building will soon become a reality. We thank the following businesses for their support of CHCP and look forward to growing this list. If you own a local business and are interested in giving, please contact CHCP Board Chair Sara Moody at smoody@chapelhillcoop.com.
We help children build a solid foundation that will enable them to explore and participate in the larger world. We help them be kind to themselves and their peers, and learn from positive everyday interactions with teachers, parents and volunteers. The Chapel Hill Cooperative Preschool uses the The Creative Curriculum which categorizes your child's development into four arenas: Social/Emotional, Physical, Cognitive, and Language Development.
Chapel Hill Cooperative Preschool holds a variety of events and celebrations throughout the year for which parents are invited to stop by to meet other parents and have some fun. An all-parent general meeting with the full board and staff at the start of each school year.

The Kids Rock public festival held on a fall weekend afternoon with live music, games, and baked goods for which we invite not only CHCP families, but also our friends from the community.A spring workday, also held on the weekend, for which one member of the family is asked to help with facility upkeep like deep cleaning, gardening, repairs and other handiwork.
We serve all meals family-style with a teacher sitting at the table and eating with the children. We provide an array of healthy, kid-friendly foods that meet or exceed the Child and Adult Care Food Program Standards. Our food is prepared onsite. The time allotted for food preparation is 1.5 hours.
