I have been coming to Old Europe for many years and for the most part have enjoyed eating the good food there until several months ago. Unfortunately the last few times I dined there, I noticed the quality of food and service have suffered tremendously. in our dinning experience last week, we waited for our food for an hour. When it arrived my chicken was heavily breaded and deeply fried so that it looked almost burnt, and as the result the chicken was overly dry and tasteless. Even the food presentation was poor and messy. I will not come back again for sure.

My husband and I were in DC for a weekend trip and Old Europe was near our hotel. We stopped on our first night and were blown away by the food. By far the best restaurant we ate at during our trip.
It was a busy night and there were only two servers so service was a little slow, but understandable. The food also took a bit to get out. But the food and drinks made up for it all.

My husband and I discovered this gem two years ago in December. He was looking for his new Christmas tradition: mulled wine. We came in to a bustling restaurant that didn't look like much from the outside. Once inside it was warm, cozy, and inviting; so different than the feel of the street in which it is located. There was a pianist playing holiday tunes and it felt like we had just walked into a festive European scene. I'm not a huge fan of German food (because I'm never sure what I'm asking for) but the food here was tasty. We had a lovely meal complete with mulled wine and

I forgot how great German food could be.
The joy of inhaling spatzel noodles, sausage, and sauerkraut while a zainy polka soundtrack sets the mood is enough to make even the most preoccupied of diners forget their troubles as soon as that first bite hits the tongue.
I ordered a lunch special with about 20 letters in the name which I could never even attempt to pronounce without embarrassing myself, but it turned out to be a delicious cup of rich, creamy potato soup complemented by crusty croutons and leaks. I enjoyed every last drop.
I also tried a sinfully decadent side dish of cheesy spatzel

I had the pleasure of attending an event catered by this restaurant on Saturday. I enjoyed the German food provided at the event in a buffet style enhanced with a band playing complete with delicious pretzels placed on the tables. The food and drink were superb, and I especially enjoyed the fresh cheeses, sausages, and hearty meatballs. I am already looking forward to a second visit!

I enjoy Old Europe restaurant for its service, antique atmosphere, and certified-authentic German food! As someone who has visited Germany and Austria, I can confirm that the food is cooked according to traditional German flavors and preparation. The images I have included illustrate the restaurant’s quality and art of German culture and cuisine. My experience at this family-owned business makes me feel as if I entered a time capsule into history.

Wow! Why haven't I been going here every week? Great food, elevated flavors, friendly service, nice German beer list, bus boy that plays showtimes on the piano...c'mon you can't find this anywhere else in DC! Treated me like a king for Father's day. Wish they had a patio... but that is minor. What a hidden secret.

Old Europe is truly one-of-a-kind in DC. Before the pandemic, I went to Old Europe during polka night, which was every Wednesday. Polka night mostly consisted of one woman playing an accordion, but it was really lovely. The restaurant is warmly decorated with a ton of cuckoo clocks and the service was friendly and efficient.
Since the pandemic, I opt to take food to go, and even got my birthday meal here this year. The food is always outstanding and I can honestly say the quality of food has remained consistent throughout the pandemic.
The shank, schnitzel, and gulasch always get high praise

I already love Old Europe, but I got takeout from them and was SO impressed. Even after we got home and let the food sit for almost half an hour it was still so warm and delicious when we dug in. They even threw in a couple of complimentary canned beers since we had mentioned that the dinner was in place of the wedding that my fiancé and I had to cancel in Munich due to covid. So thoughtful. Can't wait to return in person but would also definitely get takeout again!

Delicious food, warm atmosphere, and kind staff! We had a late lunch at Old Europe and were pleasantly surprised with the generous portions that were served. We ordered the Jägerschnitzel, Würste sampler platter, and some Glühwein—all were superb. Will definitely return when I have a craving for German cuisine.

I was looking for a new restaurant to try for my birthday; with a bit of research, I found Old Europe and I am so glad I did!
Old Europe is doing dine- in, and upon entering they checked our temperature and had out hand sanitizer. The tables were socially distanced. The restaurant is decorated with awesome paintings, ships hanging from the ceiling, beer steins... the atmosphere was so cool.
Our waitress was Annaleigh and she was the best. She answered our many questions about drinks, food, made suggestions, and all with a smile. We ordered cold meatballs with cranberry sauce (sounds strange

We had our 'last supper' here, days before closures went into effect (I had to call the restaurant to confirm our earlier reservation would be honored). The meal will be memorable thus for the good food and the eerie circumstances in which we dined.
Hähnchenbrust Schwarzwälder Art - moist chicken with nice creamy mushroom sauce - the sour cherries were a unique touch (as for spätzle, it was okay).
Husband enjoyed his chicken schnitzel and we both appreciated the server for refilling the bread basket.
The highlight was dessert - I will long remember the Black Forest cake for its richness

Wunderbar! One does not need to speak, or understand the German language when deciding to dine here or not. One only needs to understand the beauty of hearty German meals. Yelp lead me to this fine establishment, which also lead to a wonderful dining experience.
We lucked out and found a parking spot right in front of the place. It continued uphill after that. The ambiance was warm, inviting and so unique. Once seated, I could not decide if I should explore the art work and displays lining the walls, or delve into this magnificent menu placed before me. I stayed focused on the drink and

Lovely atmosphere. Great waitress. Was full by the time we left. Overall great food yet for some reason not out of the world. Had pork schnitzel with sautéed onion with dark beer gravy. Interesting. Meat was a bit dry. The other dish was a brisket beef with raisin and sauce (can’t remember) both very good. Had warm potato salad. Not too bad. I believe I make awesome German potato salad myself! Dessert- apple strudel. Ok ok. Wouldn’t order it next time!

Huge juicy sausages. Giant beers. Crisp wines. Friendly staff. Fantastic decor.
That is the simplest way to put how incredible this restaurant is.
Celebrating over 70 years in business, Old Europe is a staple in the DMV for traditional German food.

We were lucky enough to receive the Oktoberfest menu and as such I finally had a chance to try obatzda, a German beer cheese that's served with, as you could guess, beer and pretzels! Even though it had eluded me in Germany and Switzerland it was worth the wait and I was thrilled to find it at Old Europe.
The menu here is difficult to navigate but only because you can see yourself ordering everything on the menu. Two of us ordered schnitzel, one Vienna style and the other Jaeger. I'm not a big fan of gravy but I must say the Jaeger sauce and pan fried onions were delectable in small
