Upstate Area Health Education Center
We are the bridge linking students to healthcare careers, healthcare professions students to communities, and the healthcare workforce to continuing education. Upstate AHEC (Area Health Education Center) is a non-profit, community-based organization committed to connecting students to health careers, healthcare professionals to communities, the healthcare workforce to continuing education, and communities to better health.

South Carolina Upstate AHEC is building a skilled, diverse, healthcare workforce that is ready for today and well beyond tomorrow. We provide an avenue for training by maximizing local healthcare resources with our core values of Excellence, Integrity, Effectiveness, Professionalism, Service and Efficiency.
Services
The Area Health Education Centers (AHEC) program was developed by Congress in 1971 to recruit, train and retain a health professions workforce committed to serving rural and underserved populations. Building upon an initial foundation of eleven programs, today the national AHEC network has expanded to include 54 programs and more than 200 centers operating in almost every state and the District of Columbia.
Staff employed at consortium member organizations are eligible to participate in Upstate AHEC educational courses at either no cost or at a greatly reduced rate. Membership is open to groups or individuals within the field of healthcare delivery. Upstate AHEC accepts consortium members at any time throughout the year.
Upstate AHEC provides continuing education programs for healthcare professionals who seek licensure and certification credits. Participants throughout the State of South Carolina and nurses nationally are eligible to participate in Upstate AHEC trainings.

A wide range of CE courses are available for various healthcare professionals, including Nurses, Physicians, Social Workers, Physical Therapists, Occupational Therapists, Pharmacists, Pharmacy Technicians and others.For convenience, Upstate's continuing education programs are offered through three learning methods, live, on-line and video conferencing, and range from 30-minutes to multi-day, depending on the course.
The health care continuing education program is a collaboration between the Area Heath Education Consortium (AHEC) Program Office at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) and four regional AHEC Centers statewide.

AHECs in South Carolina work with an affiliation of 20 rural hospitals using technology to provide educational programs for healthcare providers throughout the state, support research initiatives and facilitate the delivery of educational resources created by MUSC faculty to health care students participating in clinical rotations.

Board of Examiners for the Licensing of Professional Counselors, Associate Counselors and Marriage and Family Therapists.
