Services
With a background in construction and law enforcement, Steve Stenros combined his construction and report writing skills and founded First Choice Inspections in March of 2003. He holds a home inspection certification from the Building Specs training academy in Irvine, California. Steve is a CREIA home inspector holding the MCI (Master CREIA Inspector) designation (#0115).
10/14/2010 - First Choice Inspections has added to their standard home inspection a RecallChek report, free of charge, to all clients. RecallChek is a reporting system that alerts homeowners of appliances that have been recalled due to fire or safety issues, and has resulted in thousands of free repairs from manufacturers nationwide.
Do you have drafty locations or suspect missing insulation in your walls or ceilings? Using Infrared Imaging, a certified infrared thermographer can identify and report on areas of enegy loss in your home, which can waste your dollars spent on heating and cooling. You will receive a graphic detailed report identifying these locations.
For most properties, you will receive a computer-generated report, complete with photos of defects, within 24 hours of your home inspection. Your First Choice Inspections report is easy to read and understand. Of course, you should feel free to call me with any questions you may have after reading your inspection report, and I will be happy to discuss them with you.
With First Choice Inspections, your property will be carefully and thoroughly inspected. Our home inspections meet or exceed the Standards of Practice as set forth by CREIA (California Real Estate Inspection Association). Price is way too high compared to other home inspectors. Last inspection I had done cost me $350. He is $225 above that!
Report is way too thin, lacks depth and detail, not enough photos. Last inspector I used before him took over 200 photos.
Missed many problems and possibly didn't even check certain things.
No mention in report at all about non-functioning electrical outlet in master bath.
No mention about leaking irrigation pipe in backyard.
No mention about ductwork in range hood unsealed.
No mention of window frames separating from glass. Didn't notice some windows are difficult

Steve came out to do a property inspection prior to the purchase of our new family home. Steve was very responsive, on time (actually early), and his inspection and explanations of his findings were top-notch. His report was thorough and completed very quickly. Steve refused to put on a mask during an inspection even after signing and agreeing to wear one. The sellers were home and shocked by his behavior, but wanted to sell their home. He did not warn me he was going to ignore what he signed. Apparently, he claims his voice recognition software was hampered by the mask, but didn't even wear one and pull it down when he spoke. Oddly enough, this wasn't an issue with his mask a few months ago. This is simply not ok. Moreover. He didn't check the steam unit or sauna which only required him to touch a button to make sure they went on

Loved that Steve was so detailed about everything. He brought up things that we would have never noticed. Amazing attention to detail.

Yelp indicated a 3 day response time but it took 5 minutes! . Steve picked up when I called today and I had my inspection scheduled for tomorrow within 5 minutes! Will update my review after the inspection, but Steve was incredibly responsive, knowledgeable, polite and gave me a referral for a structural inspector.

First Choice handled my home inspection in San Diego. It was a beautiful home built in 1925, and as a result all systems needed thorough inspection. Steve found a number of items that I needed to address with the seller. He gave me specific details that helped my realtor the tools he needed to negotiate a successful deal so we could close escrow. I have had a number of home inspections over the years, First Choice was head and shoulders above the rest!

We enjoyed having Steve at First Choice Inspections review two potential homes we were buying. He was professional, efficient, on time, knowledgeable and friendly. We were steered clear of homes we felt were unsafe and had too much work involved for a couple of our age to handle.
