Meet your new dentist, Dr. Ben Kolean. He was raised in Washington state and even as a boy dreamed of living here in Alaska with his family. After high school, he followed his three brothers to Alaska working as a fisherman each summer. He returned to Washington State for dental school and in 2002 he graduated from the University of Washington with a degree of Doctor of Dental Surgery.
Dr. Kolean recommends that each of our new and existing patients come in once every six months for a regular teeth cleaning. This is a vital preventative step and can literally save your future oral health. During your visit, Dr. Kolean will come in for a dental exam and check your teeth for cavities and check your gums for periodontal disease.
A composite filling is a tooth-colored mixture used to restore decayed teeth. Composites are also used for cosmetic improvements of the smile by changing the color of the teeth or reshaping disfigured teeth. Most people recognize dental amalgams as silver fillings. Dental amalgam is a mixture of mercury, silver, tin and copper.
Custom designed mouthguards and nightguards are made of flexible plastic and molded to fit the shape of your teeth. Mouthguards are recommended to protect the jaw and teeth during physical activity and sports such as boxing, football and hockey. Nightguards are recommended for patients who clench or grind their teeth, also known as bruxism.
