Dr. Birch Yuknis was raised in the Valley and graduated from Palmer High School. He attained his undergraduate degree from Central Washington University and his dental degree from Baylor College of Dentistry. He is an avid outdoorsman who enjoys everything Alaska has to offer. Birch and his wife Melanie are proud parents to their daughter Daphne.
Crowns are full coverage restorations that are used to cover a tooth that is likely to break, or is too broken down to be restored with a filling. They are most commonly done after root canal treatment, or when a large filling wears out. The larger the hole made by a cavity that has to be treated, the more likely a crown will be needed.
Q: Which type of toothbrush should I use? A: The brand of the toothbrush is not as critical as the type of bristle and the size of the head. A soft toothbrush with a small head is recommended because medium and hard brushes tend to cause irritation and contribute to recession of the gums, and a small head allows you to get around each tooth more completely and is less likely to injure your gums.
