Currently only practicing on Wednesdays & Thursdays (5:30pm) and Saturday mornings at 9:30am. Please contact us prior to your planned visit to gain access to the location. Adults - Beginner: We cover a specific curriculum in these classes. The material is a subset of the larger Aikido curriculum, and is everything new students need to learn up through their 6th and 5th kyu tests.
Painting a summary picture necessarily involves broad, approximating brush strokes: All martial arts can be generally grouped into being "hard" or "soft". Hard implies generally meeting force with force, and soft implies generally using (or "working with") the attacker's force to their disadvantage.
I was then a young man of 24 with some Tae Kwon Do training (from S. Henry Chi, in Manhattan) and many street fights in my past. The grace and power I witnessed in those first few hours at the Dojo drew me into the way of Aikido. Maruyama Sensei was a student of Koichi Tohei Sensei and O'Sensei.

By 1971, two years after O'Sensei's death, divisions of viewpoint regarding who was to lead Aikido and how it was to be conveyed and directed lead to a split between Tohei and Kisshomaru Ueshiba, the Founder's son.
We at Kinokawa Aikido feel we have a responsibility not only to your child, but to everyone your child interacts with. This means we don't simply teach and drill techniques into your child which s/he can use to injure others. Aikido is a martial art specifically conceived to help the world, and to bring people to a higher level of consciousness.
Free uniform: When you start, we will give you a free training uniform (normally $60) if you pay for your first three months of training dues. LEOs/Military/Students 1/3 off: Dues for law enforcement officers, active duty military personnel, college and high school students are $65 per month. Same household discount: The discount is based on the number of people from your household who are training.

I’ve known this dojo for many years and known Kinokawa Aikido for so much longer. Some of the best human beings I’ve known in my life I met while training there. Kinokawa is one of the most natural martial arts I’ve ever seen and experienced.

A wonderful learning experience in which Grace and ease are emphasized over force and ego.
