Self-defense does not always have to be physical. As a matter of fact, the act of physical self-defense should only ever be used as a last resort, and only used when all other options have been exhausted. Martial arts training also teaches physical resilience and increases your fitness! Children/Teens who need time off a screen and moving their bodies, as well as adults looking to improve their lifestyle can all benefit!
In our classes, we study leadership development and self-improvement as part of our practice. Students put these principles to work as they become role models for those below them. As students hone these abilities, we see them grow as strong, principle-based leaders. We love to see how our approach to martial arts has helped our 500+ students grow personally, mentally, and physically.

At Lehigh Valley Martial Arts (LVMA), it's so much more than that. We feel that mental and emotional development is just as important as self-defense and discipline. Confidence can be described as a belief in one's ability to succeed. One of the primary objectives of martial arts training is to help students develop the confidence they need to be successful in life.
Head Instructor - Sensei Jake began training at LVMA as a teenager, and has worked hard at his martial arts and instructing skills ever since. Now, his incredible skills as a leader on the mat make him beloved at our Palmer location. Program Director - Miss Alexa serves as the Program Director at Palmer, bringing her excellent organizational skills and attention to detail to the table.
Goal setting is a key component in practicing martial arts. Students of all ages start their martial arts journey by setting a goal for themselves to achieve. Martial arts training teaches individuals how to break goals down into smaller more tangible parts. This is an excellent way to see success quickly, and allow confidence to grow.
At our five locations, we teach Okinawan Karate and Chinese Kung Fu systems to our students. Our programs are designed to help you get in better shape while learning valuable skills for self-defense and self-improvement. On top of the physical training, martial arts training bring with it mental and emotional discipline and control, which translates beyond the mat into success and confidence.
When families come to train at Lehigh Valley Martial Arts, they grow so much. They learn how to stay focused as a family, as well as gain greater respect for one another. We love to see how our approach to martial arts has helped our 500+ students grow personally, mentally, and physically. Watch our videos below to hear about some of these success stories firsthand.

The instructors are awesome and knowledgeable. They take the time needed to prepare kids to be confident and ready to adapt to any situation. For adults you are able to learn the basics of Kung Fu up to more advanced skills using fans, short sticks, board breaking and sparring. Overall a great, fun family focused organization.

Excellent school - very kid-friendly.
Shifu Alex Oleksa has a good way with kids across a wide range of ages and skills - firmly promoting discipline and focus in a patient, gentle manner. I've been impressed by the progress kids make in his program. Most start out as (naturally) highly-distracted, uncoordinated, shy children, but make big gains in focus, coordination, and self-confidence over the course of their first year in the program. I've watched the more advanced classes and see that the growth trend continues. Shifu Alex places a strong emphasis on character development, too, with weekly
