The original El Charro restaurant opened in 1959 by the Denny family in downtown Prescott. Serving the family's favorite Mexican food recipes, made it an instant hit with both locals and travelers. Many things have changed in Prescott over the last 59 years but the quality food and service at El Charro hasn't. The Denny family has graciously shared their family recipes with El Charro Norte in Chino Valley AZ. Stop by for food and fun. Full Bar and Big Screen Sports action throughout the restaurant!

Stopped in to have lunch on Wednesday. Arrived and stood at the hostess desk for 10 minutes before I asked if we could seat ourselves. The rude waitress stated to wait. In the meantime other guest came in and seated themselves. After finally getting seated, we sat there for another ten minutes before the waitress came and took our drink order. We placed our order and it took one hour to get our food. One hour is no exaggeration. Come to find out the restaurant only had one waitress working and every table was full. How the hell do you run a business this way. We won't be back. I would

I'm a bit surprised at all the negative reviews. Ok it's not a five star place but the atmosphere is fantastic Otis very clean. And I was with some 19 other guys!! Everyone enjoyed the food it came out quickly and Efficiently. The staff is great. And the food well it's very good.
Is there better Mexican food or n this area? Yes. But that can handle a large group every month. And serve $2 margaritas on Mondays?
I do no t thinn no k so.
I had the chili Relleno stuffed with prawns the priest I was with had chicken fajitas salad. Both dishes were great.
Ok my poblano

Hmm this one is tough to rate. My wife and I have been here a few times. I have found the food to be average each time. My wife would agree until the last time she really enjoyed her food. The service has felt consistently rude/annoyed and is slow but we always get an apology and friendliness when they bring us the check...the reason is obvious. My wife and I have never really cared because we were never in a rush and understand they may be understaffed. We continue to go back because it's right down the road and we love the atmosphere. My wife also loves their marg special.

It was a 25 minute, 16 mile drive from Prescott to El Charro Norte in Chino Valley, AZ. We read a lot of good things...sigh.
Maybe it's because I'm from California and the Mexican food is made to a higher standard...not sure. Maybe we should have stayed home on 9/11 and grilled burgers (something we will be doing tonight).
The chicken taco meat was boiled, placed in a tortilla for the enchilada and sauce was poured on top. Minus the tortilla and sauce, this is what my wife makes for our dog when she has an upset stomach.
The shredded beef taco tasted good at one end and it's taste

My family and I went to El Charro Norte on July 5. My sister-in-law and I both had Fry bread. She had green chili meat and I had ground beef. They were delicious. My brother had three crispy tacos; 1 chicken, 1 shredded beef and 1 ground beef. He said that the meats weren't seasoned. We will be back

Massive let down. Growing up in Prescott, going to El Charro was such a treat and the salsa...OMG the best!! Not living in AZ anymore and back visiting, we had heard a new one from the same owners opened in Chino Valley since the one in Prescott closed (R.I.P). El Charro Norte is it's less loved step-child with the most bland Mexican food, stale chips and some of the worst salsa. What happened?! The service was a bit rough with the gal tossing our HOT HOT plates onto the table and salsa going everywhere. If you're looking for good Mexican food, explore other options. There are MANY in

I have just had the most amazing experience at this restaurant. Our server Melanie was a delight and our food came out very very fast. We sat in the back room and it was so incredibly beautiful. The scenery inside was just as beautiful as the scenery outside. We have found our new favorite place to eat!

This was our first visit to El Charro Norte. We were so excited to try a new place since Mexican Food is our favorite! The atmosphere was so nice, maybe even the nicest around. However, the chips & salsa were horrible. Chips were stale, store bought would have been better, and the salsa is just plain tomatoes blended up with a few spices. So disappointed. We purchased their nachos to split, (dumb move after tasting the chips lol) paid $5 or $6 more to add carne asada. There was nothing special about the nachos, in fact we only got 1/4 of the asada and it tasted like stew meat. The guacamole

Traveling with family from California visiting here in Arizona.
The location was a little sketchy because it's more in the rural side. Looks like they were having a karaoke night outside and it looked like a bar from a far. But once you go inside it's just like any other sit down restaurant.
The waitress was extremely attentive and friendly.
Extremely calm atmosphere. The carne asada nachoes I ordered we're very delicious. Will definitely be coming back. Thank you!

Very neatly appointed Mexican restaurant in a bucolic setting, with a large menu. We stopped in lunchtime to get a soda, and wound up with a Chicken burrito, 1/2 Guacamole salad , Pepsi and a Chambord margarita.
The latter was one of the tastiest margaritas I've ever had. The 1/2 salad was huge, and more than enuf for one, as was the burrito.
We would come here again - for Dinner!

If you like bland Mexican food with no taste and mice turds in your chips and salsa this might be the place for you! Bathroom also smells like a outhouse!! You would also think this would be a family restaurant, but the front seating area you have to listen to obnoxious drunks at the bar.
Don't waste your time or money. Go to Casa Grande, their food is great!!

This place is great! The tacos & enchiladas were tasty. Margarita was one of the best we ever had. The whole place was clean & comfortable. It's hidden off 4 North in Chino Valley.
Did I mention the great service? Coca was her name-a real sweetheart!
Thanks for a most enjoyable lunch El Charro Norte!
We'll be back.

Meh. I won't be back unless it's for happy hour.
I've been wanting to try every time I come to Chino Valley. I wanted it to be so good. It's just okay. I had to kill my Borracha Wet Burrito with their salsa, then ask for something hotter, then ask for Tabasco - finally some flavor.
Waitress was fantastic. Place is nice with nice views.
