I've traveled a few paths in my lifetime. Being a photographer is one of the most fulfilling things I've done. I got my first camera when I was twelve and loved walking about looking for things to photograph. In 2017 I decided to turn that love into a career and started John Lowry Photography with a focus on portraits.

Popular outdoor locations in the Columbia area are the USC Horseshoe, the South Carolina State House, or a location along the rivers.

We couldn't have asked for a better experience with John Lowry Photography!!! John was responsive from the very first inquiry I made, and was extremely thorough on follow up about the process. He had excellent ideas for a location to shoot and provided wonderful directions and tips for parking. We included my husband's Grandmother in our family photos, who uses a wheelchair. John made the shoot very easy for us to maneuver her chair to multiple locations at the shoot. He was VERY patient and considerate. We hired John to photograph my little guy turning 3 and also to photograph his birthday party. I cannot speak highly enough about him. He is kind, genuine, detail oriented, and very professional. He was so good with my 3 yr old and was even generous enough to bring him a present to the party. I have hired a photographer to do his last 2 birthday parties and NEVER did they bring a gift. We will be hiring John again in the near future. Do yourself a favor and hire him as well. You will not be disappointed.

I didn’t know John before hiring him for our family photo shoot, so I wasn’t totally sure what to expect. Usually I work with photographers I know personally! Well, I could not be happier with this entire experience. John is professional and great at communicating before and after the shoot. During the shoot, he had the ideal personality for it—relaxed, comfortable, and confident. We were a fairly large group (6 adults, 2 very young children) and he managed it all perfectly. Mr. Lowry was extremely patient and professional when working with my family for our family photos. We hired him months prior to the actual photo shoot but had to reschedule due to conflicting family schedules and poor weather but Mr. Lowry was understanding and when the day of the shoot finally came he remained patient and upbeat making the entire experience enjoyable. We are a family of five with two small children. The photos came out amazing. We highly recommend Mr. Lowry.
