Services
Scales & Sons Funeral Home is the oldest African American family-owned funeral home in Rutherford County, Tennessee. It was founded in 1916 by Henry Preston Scales and was operated by Mr. Scales and his wife, Willie Burkeen Scales. The funeral home was located in downtown Murfreesboro, TN, and was named 'H.
Receiving friends through a visitation activates your support system and allows others to express their concern and love for you. Having a visitation encourages you to openly and honestly mourn the death. Friends and family will remember you invited them and often stay more available to you in the months that follow the death.
Decisions, choices, options, planning, so many unknowns concerning an unwanted but non-preventable event. Making final arrangements can seem overwhelming. The following information has been provided by answering the most frequently asked questions. And to assure you that once you've contacted us, we'll guide you in implementing the plan you've chosen with the same care and attention we'd give our own family in their time of need.
Most of us plan ahead in life. We plan for our wedding, our children's education, family vacations, and other significant expected life events. We also plan for the unexpected events of life by purchasing home, auto and medical insurance. Understanding the benefits of planning ahead has prompted many to take the step to plan their own arrangements.
Many who have undergone the emotional strain of arranging a funeral within hours of losing a loved one have made the choice to pre-plan their own funeral. Doing so lifts the burden from their loved ones by relieving decision-making pressure at a time of grief and emotional stress. Funeral arrangements are a deeply personal choice.

My family came down from NY to pay respect for there brother/uncle and the funeral home lied to us and said during the viewing that it was not going to be a funeral and it was a funeral. Very unprofessional and unorganized.
