Worst hotel experience ever. The room was dirty. Found a used pregnancy test. Manager is rude has a very bad attitude towards life. She needs to keep her personal life out of work and don’t use that anger with visitors. Other than the manager the kitchen staff is really nice shoutout to the kitchen staff. I know the other employees dislike the manager. #GetHerFired

Came with someone special and stayed in one of the rooms facing the water directly. The moon was out and full and breathtaking over the water. The view alone was worth coming. The staff was nice and the room was clean.

AWFUL. GROSS. BUGS!! Do NOT stay here! Disgusting, AC didn't work, damp inside, bug infested; cockroaches, dust mites, bed bugs. Once we found the bed bugs, we had the hotel staff come and examine our room, which they did with no protective gear and picked up a live cockroach with bare hands. They gave us 30 mins to pack up and leave if we wanted a refund for that nights stay only. Lisa, the manager of the hotel, did not care that it RUINED all of our clothes and luggage and cost us copious amounts of expenses for the hotels poor conditions. Terrible customer service. We are not responsible

Cons first - the place it is outdated and obviously not the fanciest. A direct boardwalk to the beach would be awesome.
Pros - even though not super fancy, every room has partial ocean view which is just amazing. The windows on the east and west are also awesome to get good views of the beautiful ocean and the stripe. Prices are just right I would say for this hotel. Close to everything especially the beach. My kids and wife and I loved the location and views, will definitely be going back to to stay here again. Staff were nice and we stayed on a weekend so we got free breakfast which was also

My husband and I have a timeshare here. It is a one-bedroom efficiency we've had for over 40 years. It is great. Small, but has what we need. The staff are always pleasant and helpful. Great beach area and walkway with a tarp-style material to walk on. View is wonderful since it is beach side!

Great place. Wonderful view. Great breakfast on weekends. Always a parking spot for guest only. By the beach. Don’t know why people leave bad reviews crying like little kids complaining about buying the ice when all hotels are different, I would have it rather fresh than free ice machine where people can pee on it and spit on it. Staff is great and nice especially the young man and mid age lady and great manger who goes above and beyond help the guest and nice owner as well. The beds are so comfortable. Pool area sometimes crowded but hey there kids having fun and people, first come first serve

From the moment we walked in our room we should've known it was GHETTO toilets didn't work. We thought we where at the Cecil Hotel and Richard Ramirez was going to be there. This place is very very outdated as much as they charge for this place they should at least update the curtains and appliances.

A little pricey for the age of the hotel. Service was good. Rooms need updated, was on south side and the warm air was coming in around the seal of the sliding glass door. Pillows were pretty flat. Internet was not dependable. Stove was not level as one portion was on the carpet.. Had to ask for a different skillet as the one in the room the bottom was warped. Pool area was okay. Seemed like there were a lot of people without wristbands! Parking is an issue! They give you a parking pass for your vehicle, but they don't enforce the signs posted. Yes , this hotel is right next to a beach public access

Let me preface this by saying I have stayed in just about every kind of hotel from budget to fancy so i am trying to being fair in my review.

Positive - the pool was a nice shape, it made for a better swimming experience. Did go to 8 feet. Pool was clean, clear water. I really liked that they had a kiddie pool which most hotels do not (i don't have small children anymore) but is a plus so they can have fun and the parents can have piece of mind since no lifeguards. I liked that each room had it's own small balcony with a decent view of the beach and/or the bay and bridge. The patio

Omg I had to walk my f***ing towels down to get new ones and they made me go into a sketchy room and 'count the towels one by one' as I threw them in the basket! Am I on payroll now? Ridiculous. Also as we walked in they had warnings all over the room saying 'stained towels/ sheets will be billed to your account, don't turn off the AC, etc.' They also had complimentary grill outside but one family used BOTH grills all day! We couldn't bring extra people cause it cost 20 for a person, 2 extra people max. Really hyper focused on the wrist bands and beach access. Don

My family and I went to SPI for the first time this past weekend. Staff was super friendly from beginning to end. We checked in Friday and checked out Sunday. Room was great, with a partial view; view was beautiful. Everything was great with one small exception; the AC in our room made whirring/squeaking noises the whole time but other than that, it was pretty much a perfect stay. We would definitely go back to this same hotel and already recommended it to fam/friends.

I've seen alot of reviews that talk about out dated hotels. Well it doesn't compare if you are looking for 600.00 condo. But for the 57.00 a night. And everything you need in your room. Plus we had a balcony and a great view of the beach and the ocean. Also short walk to the beach. House keeping was great as well. Best spot I ever had on any beach yet. My hat is off to you. God bless you and your staff.

Positives:
Beachfront as stated. I just wish there was a ramp like the surrounding hotels. We still made it down to the beach but on the way back I was having to carry my cranky 2 year old and much of our beach gear.
The pool was actually very clean and accommodating. There is a 2 foot deep pool for the littles and plenty of seating. We came during Labor Day weekend so it wasn't incredibly busy.
Kitchenette in the room. It was nice to be able to make breakfast for the kids in the morning.
Decent view. We walked out onto the patio and had a great view of the beach. We also got a great view

So, let me first say that this place is beachfront. You go out the door, you are on the path to the sand, which is great. That's the most liked part of my stay.
The close second was that it did have a small kitchen in the room, in which to cook dinner and such for my kids. This was very different from most hotel rooms so I did like this feature. Pots and pans and dishes are in the cabinets for use. The dishwasher however did not work. Everything else for a basic kitchen is there, except food and seasonings.
Now, the bad. I don't care that it's not fancy, but I do need to have my

Small bathrooms that make you feel unclean. Mini toilets so it was hard to, ya know.... Old, wobbly, outdated furniture. However it's close to the beach, so maybe it's worth it. They make you wear wristbands the entire time you're here but I took them off because I'm on vacation! Not someone wearing a slave chain! If this hotel was anywhere else, it would be horrible. But SPI out weighs the hotel experience.

I saw roaches inside the kitchenette cabinets and took photos and video. Made me want to vomit, thankfully my family did not eat from those dishes in there! I showed the photos and video to the Hotel manager Lisa. She just brushed it off claiming nothing could be done about it, that roaches fly in when people open doors. Well at other hotels and even your home when things like that fly in a door they get EXTERMINATED! This hotel needs a new manager and an exterminator, pronto!

I honestly don't know why so many people leave bad reviews of this place. This past week (July 18-23) was our second time staying at this hotel. Our room was very clean, bed was comfortable, and we had plenty of clean towels and washcloths. Front desk staff were very friendly and helpful.
A/c worked wonderfully, which was fantastic since it was so hot during our stay.
10/10 will stay again.

This is probably the worst...place I have ever stayed at.

Pros: staff is very friendly and when I asked if they had a roll-away bed the receptionist said they didnt but would get an inflatable mattress set up for us right away.
Hotel is close to the beach.

Now for the cons: It smells horrible! In the hallways and the rooms. I am aware that hotels so close to the ocean will have a smell but this is ridiculous. The restroom was tiny and dirty. Carpeting...dirty. Tile...dirty. The microwave had an electrical short so when it was slightly moved it would shut off. That was scary. Also the elevator

The hotel was gross, just gross. After renting a wonderful private condo (albeit far more expensive) on a private beach, we decided to stay one more day and ended up staying at the Padre South...because we had already spent enough and paid only $130. Well, that was a mistake and we will spend more next time, because the hotel was disgusting. Man, I sound like a yuppie, but let's take a closer look, shall we...

The pros: On the beach! The staff, including security (later on her), was really friendly to me- that is it.

The cons: The hallways smelled like seawater and fish...oh, and mildew

I've been coming to South Padre since I was a child. I've stayed at half the condos or hotels on the island. This hotel is one of the worst.

You should know, most of the hotels here are old. They are near the ocean, so they usually smell salty are also kinda humid inside. That's the case with most places here, which I'm totally okay with, and it's to be expected on an aging resort island.

The Padre South Hotel is gross. I had to think twice about actually eating in the room, because it felt so dirty.

The floors and carpets haven't been cleaned in ages. Most places

Very happy with this hotel!

The good? Beautiful view and a very comfy bed (was in room 510). The sheets and ample amount of towels were clean and changed daily. Kitchen is fully stocked with a pot, pan, dishes, glasses, silverware and a nice spatula. It also has a dishwasher (with soap provided), a toaster, a coffee maker (filters provided but not coffee) and ice trays. Freezer freezes so fast! Room was spacious and clean. Flat screen TV got more channels than we needed and the remote wasn't on a chain (lol). Balcony had plenty of room for chairs and was shaded. Check-in was

If you are looking for a hotel where you can palpably touch the water in the air... Where you can splash around in the water on the tiles... Where the dingy, dark, 1970s style decor adds to the depressing ambience of the establishment... come on down to Padre South Hotel. Every time you step outside the hotel, you are reminded that the sun does in fact exist. Back problems? Make them worse with the lumpy, dirty king mattress or the pullout couch that has a metal rod sticking out of the middle. But, for the love of God, do NOT stain the towels. Performing this Cardinal sin will result in steep fines

I've stayed at Padre South since 1984 and each year the hotel and their General Manger (GM) have sent it down the drain in both service and facility appearance. It seems the GM (L. Leal) who has been there for over 30 years has passed on her lack of pride in her work to other employees. Never have I experience the type of condescending and negative attitude that I encountered by their front desk personnel. This was experienced in person, over phone and by email. The GM literally stared me down and another employee there rolled their eyes at me when I asked about possible checking in early
