Services
Kicks Karate was founded in 1994 by Master John Bussard (8th Degree Black Belt). For well over twenty five years, Kicks Karate has been the Family Martial Arts Academy of Maryland's I-270 corridor. With locations stretching from Bethesda and Rockville, through Gaithersburg and Clarksburg and into Urbana and Frederick, there's sure to be a school near you.
Kicks Karate is Your Family Martial Arts Academy. We offer a variety of programs designed around students' specific needs. Classes are divided by age AND skill level, ensuring that classes contain students with similar maturity and ability. All of our programs are designed to help students develop and improve important life skills.
Every Kicks Karate location has a parent seating area close to the action where parents can observe classes. This provides a unique level of comfort for younger children as they learn to interact with others. Parents are close enough for their children to feel comfortable in a new environment, and far enough away to allow their children to interact independently with their instructors and other students.
Our Little Ninjas program was designed to help your child succeed in school and at home. We've put together a fantastic program geared specifically for the developmental needs of children ages 5 to 7 to help them reach continued success at any age. Children can develop a habit of letting their eyes wander while someone is talking to them.
Over time, children can develop a habit of letting their eyes wander while someone is talking to them. If never corrected, this can hurt a child's ability to concentrate in school, at home and eventually at work. First time listening is another important skill our students are taught early on. Students get to be so good at listening that they only need to be told once to do something by instructors and parents.

My son has loved Kicks Karate and really enjoys the lessons. The teachers take their time to teach the proper movement, confidence, and discipline through interaction and challenges. This is physically challenging for my 4 year old, I see older kids there also who show significant skills! Great place for Karate!!

Some of the teachers are extremely good at what they teach. However, most of the time the teachers teach morals rather than karate. I understand that they have to communicate that into the class but it should not take 15 minutes of a 30-40 minute class to talk about how to run and such. My child has learned and like I said the teachers are very good at what they do. I just wish they would focus more on teaching them more kicks and get them more active rather than the same “obstacles” over and over again.

This location of Kick Karate is great. The instructors are kind and caring, instilling respect and confidence in their students that they carry with them far beyond the dojo. My two kids have both trained there and had great experiences, one reaching 2nd degree black belt and the other only a few months from his black belt. We are lucky to have such a wonderful program so close to home.

Kicks Karate has become part of our lives in a way we couldn't have imagined! I credit the great studio management and the phenomenal instructors. We originally sought a way to keep our 3- and 4-year-old daughters active and engaged. But what started as a simple extracurricular activity has turned into a new way of life for our family! My girls are proud of their karate accomplishments, and this carries over into their life at home and at school. We appreciate the studio's flexible schedule and open communication with the parents. I highly recommend this program!

The staff here is really attuned to children's needs. The kids have a good time and learn self-control. I love that the older kids are encouraged to become leaders for the younger kids. They have a black belt club that works well. They do an excellent job of meeting kids at their level.
I see kids that are probably labeled hyperactive in these classes and I see instructors addressing that difficulty and not expecting the parent to control their child. I see kids with some minor physical disablities achieving great things because they can focus.
They also have special days (parents
