For nearly 90 years the Hansen-Spear Funeral Home has served the families of Quincy and its surrounding communities. Founded in 1929 by Walter D. and Helene H. Hansen, the original Hansen Funeral Chapel was located at Eighth and Jefferson where the couple set out to support families in times of loss.
Hansen-Spear Funeral Home was built in 1929 as the first full service funeral home in Quincy, Illinois. It included the area's only funeral chapel with fixed pews and adjoining family room. In addition there are two separate visitation parlors to accommodate up to three visitations at a time. It is handicapped accessible.

Originally from New York and Chicago, Brian C. Durante joined Hansen-Spear family, after having worked as a funeral director and embalmer in the Chicago area for 10 years. He received his Bachelor degree from Northern Illinois University, and he graduated from Worsham College of Mortuary Science, where he won the American Institute of Embalmer's Award.

My brother passed away very suddenly and we were in shock. The staff at Hansen-Spear was extremely helpful in guiding us through difficult decisions and planning at this traumatic time. The team at Hansen Spear went above and beyond to to provide genuine compassion for my in laws and the rest of our family as we mourned the lost of a father, grandfather and great grandfather. They truly made sure that everything was taken care of and accommodated our needs. They are all personal and you know by talking to them that they care for you, your family and your loved one.

Mom's passing was a very difficult time for all of us. The stress of making arrangements was overwhelming at times but the Spear family was so patient with us. At 50+ years old, this is/was my first experience of having to help plan a funeral and working with a funeral home. But, Will and the folks at Hansen-Spear were absolutely wonderful! You couldn't ask for a more caring and professional group of people!
They went way above and beyond anything I expected. Will made himself available all hours of the day and was very responsive to my wife's needs. Not only were Will and the staff wonderful, the actual facility and the chapel were great. Just the right size.

He sent me a brochure and price list, through email, and helped explain all the different "thumbie jewelry' they manufacture. There are a variety of choices you can pick from like charms, key chains and even rings. With you order you get free engraving of two lines, with a limit of 10 characters (including space) on each line. This is a great gift for someone special that has last someone close to them.

As a GIVE BACK winner, I can attest to the huge impact Hansen-Spear is making in the lives of so many in our community. My classroom will be able to purchase high quality literature to expand my student's young minds and improve their reading skills. Without this funding, this would not be possible. The contest was also a great way for our school community to participate together in voting and spreading our good news to the community. In the past, I have enjoyed seeing charities from Horizons to Six String Heroes win; providing our community with resources for so many worthy projects and ministries
