The teaching of the martial art of Ki Aikido began in Boulder, Colorado in 1977, when Koichi Kashiwaya Sensei founded our parent martial arts organization, Rocky Mountain Ki Society (RMKS). Twenty years later, the Boulder and Denver dojos were combined and moved to form a new home in Westminster, Colorado, which now serves as the official Headquarters of RMKS.
Older Children & Teens Ki Aikido (ages 9+, orange with 2 blue stripes or higher, or by special permission from Sensei). Child-Parent FUNDAMENTALS Ki Aikido for 5-8yo (Kindergarteners + Early Elementary children ages 5-8 with their parents). Our Ki Aikido classes for adults and teens are geared for a positive, safe experience for all practitioners.
Completed Registration and Assumption of Risk Waiver is required prior to participation. Parent (or legally responsible guardian) must sign this waiver on behalf of children under the age of 18. This step is completed during the sign up process. Unless you have practiced martial arts before, we recommend starting out with the Lightweight Gi.
Children, tweeners, teenagers, adults, and families (ages 6 & up) can now sign up for private lessons in Ki Aikido and Ki Development. Propel your learning by taking advantage of Abel Villacorta Sensei's 25+ years of experience. Our private martial arts lessons are perfect for anyone looking to deepen their understanding of this subtle art.
This class is designed specifically for homeschooling children, who have more flexibility in their schedule, and do not have to attend traditional after-school activities. Children will meet and interact with other homeschooling children in the Boulder area.
The Child-Parent Ki Aikido class is a unique opportunity for both parents and children to play, stretch and develop techniques and strategies that strengthen their bodies and their relationships, both on and off the mat.In a much broader sense, the goal of Ki Aikido is to unify mind and body, improving our awareness of and connection with both ourselves and the world around us.

My daughter and I recently started Aikido at Boulder Ki Aikido, and we’ve been having a wonderful experience. With superb instructors (who are attentive and seasoned), a spacious and elegant dojo, and an easy check-in app, Boulder Ki Aikido is the perfect place to learn Aikido. As a new practitioner, but with other martial arts and fitness prior experiences, I found Aikido to be an excellent combination of breathing, focus, posture, physical ability, control, and self defense—and BKA’s instructors emphasize each of these elements. The teen class is perfect for my daughter; she feels comfortable

My son loves this dojo, the practice, and the sensei. We were looking for something that would give him the opportunity to focus his energy, challenge his physicality and coordination, as well as boost his confidence, Boulder Ki Aikido has done all of this and more!

I did Aikido in college and for my oldest child it was obvious he needed to engage in a martial art - but as a boy I needed it to be about focus, movement of aggression and letting go. Not how strong am I but more about - what are my inner strengths.
These are the founding principles of Aikido. That’s why we came here and I’ve been nothing but very impressed and grateful since.
My child has a home here with a community and a place to work on energetics of emotion and moving with it. He has friends he goes to hang out with outside his school community and that’s really important for young

Our son has been taking private Aikido training with sensei Abel, in addition to participating in group lessons. Both private and group lessons have been good experiences. The private lessons, however, have been amazing. Sensei Abel is very encouraging and teaches important life skills. He is helping our son build confidence, stretch himself mentally and physically, and find his inner strengths.

The instructors and community at boulder Ki aikido set it apart from any other martial art school.
The focus of their practice epitomizes martial arts philosophy. First teaching the mind martial arts principles, and then using the physical art as a vehicle to embody those principles. The harmony of these two aspects enlivens a journey toward unification of mind and body that touches any and every aspect of everyday life.
Students of all levels work together helping each other learn, and the instructors go above and beyond ensureing every student receives personal training time in every class

We visited a number of martial arts studios in Boulder and were really drawn to the fun, focused and connected environment of Boulder Ki Aikido. The instructors are very engaged and the practice is calm and centered. I've been attending classes there for nine months and I only get more impressed with the quality of people and the depth of training. I also just started training with my six year-old son there and he's loving it as well. I very highly recommend Boulder Ki Aikido

I have studied several different Martial arts over the years and thoroughly enjoy the experience, personal attention and family feel at Boulder Ki Aikido. Abel sensei and his team are true professionals and genuinely passionate about this art. It is a gentle form of defense that works equally well for women, men and children alike. I have studied here for over two years and I highly recommend you come and check us out!
