Communities United, Inc. is currently accepting applications for the Head Start In-person programs. In 1970, a group of concerned parents, town officials and community volunteers formed Communities United, Inc., then a pilot program supported solely by Head Start funding with the purpose of providing comprehensive services in education, social services, health and parenting.
At that time, CUI served a preschool population of 3-5 year olds for half-days in five communities. By 1980, the staff had grown to 50 and the program served 180 children. Over the next ten years, the number of staff and children served doubled. The need for full-day childcare became a growing issue, and by 1995 CUI becomes a lead agency for state-funded Community Partnership Grants (CPG).

Communities United, Inc. is conducting this family survey as part of its Self-Assessment to become accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). Family perspectives are essential to the NAEYC Accreditation process. To achieve accreditation, programs must provide opportunities for families to participate in the Self-Assessment and program improvement process.
Communities United, Inc. (CUI) offers full and part-day programming to meet the needs of families. Because CUI receives more applications than there are available slots in our programs, we maintain an active wait list from which vacancies are filled as they occur throughout the year. Submission of an application does not guarantee acceptance into our program.
