Heavy Hitters Thai Boxing
Here at Heavy Hitters Thai Boxing, our youth Muay Thai program serves all youth ages 5-13. During our youth classes, kids will learn Muay Thai technique in a safe manner, while learning discipline, determination, overcoming adversity, and most importantly, having fun. Muay Thai is a stand-up striking system that combines punches, kicks, knees, and elbows with clinching techniques.

We have a diverse membership with students of all skill levels, from the brand new student trying to get in shape, to the experienced fighter training for high-level competition. Heavy Hitters Thai Boxing is a 2000 square foot facility located in Olde Kensington, adjacent to Fishtown. At Heavy Hitters we teach traditional Muay Thai, also known as Thai Boxing.
Services
In our fundamentals classes we break down basic Muay Thai technique and incorporate pad work with a partner. These classes are ideal for newer students, as well as experienced students looking to improve their overall fundamentals. Intermediate Muay Thai is where students learn how to incorporate techniques into a live situation.
Muay Thai is one of the fastest growing youth sports not just in the USA, but around the world. In fact, Muay Thai was recently given full Olympic recognition and will be an Olympic sport in the coming years. Over the past few years the USA has become a growing force in youth Muay Thai, producing numerous youth World Champions.
All the coaches at Heavy Hitters Thai Boxing are experienced in working with beginners. The majority of our students come to us having no experience in any martial art. The great thing about our community is that everybody remembers what it was like to be brand new and all of our members are always there to lend a helping hand to new students.
Heavy Hitters Thai Boxing is more than a gym, it is a community. We have a diverse membership with students of all skill levels, from the brand new student trying to get in shape, to the experienced fighter training for high level competition. One of the best fight gyms I've ever visited. The instruction is amazing and easy to understand and as a beginner it's invaluable. The other members are so warm and friendly and open to new folks and visitors. Everyone is willing to help and challenge you and that's what makes this place excellent in my book.

Heavy Hitters was my first experience with Muay Thai, and I was welcomed into their gym. The members seem very close, like a family, and they made me feel very comfortable. I had heard that Muay Thai training tends to create close bonds, and this is certainly the case at Heavy Hitters. the owner and coach, Michael Rakay, is passionate about Muay Thai, and loves to answer questions and help his students improve. I definitely recommend training here.

Awesome gym for both beginners and experienced Muay Thai students alike. I had roughly two years experience coming to Heavy Hitters. I never knew I had some bad habit techniques until working with coach Mike. Within weeks of drill and adjustments, I made noticable improvements in technique and power. Coach Mike is the owner as well as the head coach of the gym and takes great care and pride teaching his students.I highly recommend this gym and it's crew of students if your looking to have fun and learn real Muay Thai.

Coach Mike is The single hardest working person I know in the Muay Thai scene. I’ve been training under mike for several years and he has been in my corner literally and figuratively for years.
This gym is a shrine to his passion for the sport and his coaching reflects that. You won’t find a better place to train anywhere in the city.

Coach Mike is super kind and it is obvious he knows what he is doing. I was a member for a month and although I didn't go as often as I should have, I loved every moment I was there. Coach Mike explains Muay Thai techniques in a way that is easy to understand for someone who is just starting out. I love the energy he brings to his place and everyone in the gym was equally as helpful and supportive.

I walked into heavy hitters nervous and without an ounce of experience and left with confidence and new friends. Coach Mike is an excellent teacher and genuinely cares about his students regardless of their experience level. You can tell he is passionate about Muay Thai and is also very well equipped to teach. The people at the gym are some of the kindest people I ever met. It’s truly a little Muay Thai family. I absolutely recommend this gym to all of my friends and family.

I was looking for a Muay Thai gym after going to a BJJ gym with a Muay Thai program and was fortunate that a friend told me about HH. I had only been practicing for about a year but felt like I had plateaued. After dropping into 3 different classes, I was significantly better due to Coach Mike's keen eye for good form and meticulous coaching. That experience convinced me to make the shift to join HH and I'm so glad that I have. The coaching is incredible, the community is inviting and challenging, and I don't think I could see myself anywhere else.

I've known Mike for a few years now and first met him as an instructor at a previous Muay Thai gym. I was excited to hear when he started his own gym, he's a talented, former Muay Thai fighter that excels at transferring in-ring experience to the mats where students learn through hands on, step-by-step instruction. Whether your looking to be the next striking athlete or just someone wanting to learn some proper technique and acquire physical exercise, Heavy Hitters is the place to be. The clientele isn't even clientele, it becomes more like a family so if you like making new friends and helping

I took my first class with Mike and he was an amazing teacher. His experience around Muay Thai gives me, as a beginner student, assurance that when I practice technique I won't hurt myself . He eased my train of thoughts when practicing bag kicks and other clinch moves. As someone who has no experience in Muay Thai Mike's beginner class will help ease you into the fitness training while introducing you to technique.
My husband, Benjamin Windle, has been with Mike for some time now and has trained with him intensively. He has been with Ben cornering for his fights has extensive knowledge in executing
