Our new capacity has increased to 20 students in Building 1 and 14 students in Building 2. BMA will continue to require students to register prior to arrival, screen before entry, and masks remain mandatory for kids classes. While the move to Yellow Tier is exciting for many of us, we will always implement procedures that make BMA a safe place to learn.

BMA staff will monitor San Francisco's tier status to prioritize the safety of staff, students, and families, and will notify everyone via email with any immediate changes. Private one-on-one sessions with coaches will continue to be offered. Find all your martial arts needs and fit your art with our recommendations at our new store.

I have been a BJJ student at BMA for more than a year, transferring from another local academy. The adult BJJ team is like a family which made me feel very comfortable starting at a new gym with only a few months of experience, and as a female grappler. A great co-ed atmosphere and clean facility that keeps us all safe by taking COVID precautions seriously

TL;DR: One of the best martial arts schools I’ve ever attended (which is a lot). Mr Barrios is super knowledgeable, and a great teacher. Very strong focus on having the basics down which slowly build up towards more complex drills. Highly, highly recommend.
Long version: Some of the other MA schools I’ve been to were either super commercialized (pay the fee, get the belt) or meathead gyms (god forbid you’re not an experienced practitioner and happen to inconvenience *gasp* high belts with your lack of knowledge). They’d let you roll with other white belts with barely any concern for yours

Mr. Barrios and Mr. Allen are wonderful teachers. My son was initially hesitant to learn a marital art, but Mr. Barrios and Mr. Allen are so great and engaging, he just loves learning Hapkido now. This place is highly recommended! You should check it out!

I've tried out a couple of martial arts gyms and this is one worth dedicating to. The instructors here care about students as individuals and pay attention to our different levels and styles. Carlos and his team have a wealth of knowledge and offer the variety of classes I was looking for - jiujitsu gi and no gi, and kickboxing. The other students are supportive and respectful, and in martial arts peers make up a big part of the learning environment too. It's a great community and lots of fun!

We have been sending our kids to Mr B and his team for several years. He is great with kids and teaches them the Hapkido principles of discipline, 100 percent effort, and respect. He is the best around!

I have been a senior, training partner, and friend of Mr. Barrios since he started his training under Master Jino Kang in the International Hapkido Federation. Throughout these many years, I have seen him develop and excel in his personal skill, his teaching ability, and his understanding of the arts and how to apply them in not just self-defense situations, but in every day life.
I highly recommend training with him in either (or both) hapkido and Brazilian jiu-jitsu.

Mr. B, as all the students know him by, is great. Mr. Alan, his assistant is awesome too. They are a great combo. Students are well educated in the art of Hapkido.

I've known Chuck Barrios since 1995 whom was the Martial Instructor for my kids, Jiro and Monroe! An excellent instructor with a great personality! :-)

Mr. B is a Legit Martial Artist and a great instructor that does not give belts away you earn them. You're not going to see a bunch of 10 year olds with black belts under him that do not know what they are doing like you see at some other Dojos/Dojangs ect. He teaches the techniques and spends the time with you until you understand it. I've witnessed MR. B and Mr. Allen train kids for a couple months and the kids technique will be at a high level. I would recommend BMAA to anybody who wants to learn a Martial Art.

Mr. B is an excellent Hapkido instructor but most of all he knows how to motivate and engage the kids to listening and learning. His staff Mr. Allen is also an excellent instructor and motivator.
