Brazilian jiu jitsu is an art form, and the artist that creates it does so with passion, respect, inspiration and the will to keep progressing. At Movimento BJJ & Fitness, founded by Israel "Izao" Reyes, we believe in the artistry of the sport and its practitioners.
Brazilian jiu jitsu teaches that with proper technique, women and men can defend themselves successfully against those who are larger and stronger, be it in practice sparring, sport grappling competition, or in the mixed martial arts (MMA) arena. The feat is accomplished by using precise leverage, refined movement, and proper technique.

Muay thai kickboxing has become one of the fastest growing martial arts today. Where many striking arts developed just punches and kicks, muay thai evolved a system that also incorporates devastating elbows and knees. This has made it a favorite art of professional fighters, as well as a powerful self-defense tool.
With so many options, choosing the right kids' activities can be tough. Brazilian Jiu Jitsu classes stand out as a great option if you are looking to challenge your child's mind and body in a way that keeps them excited and engaged. At Movimento we are passionate about our personal approach to kids' jiu jitsu classes.

My son is 11 years old and has been attending Movimento gym for 2 going on 3 years now. From the start we were welcomed and treated like family. My son has became stronger mentally and physically. He has learned and grown so much that it is beyond words to explain. The gym owner (Israel) is an amazing Professor and has hired amazing coaches (Jacky and Matt) to train the kid classes . We are 2 years in and are not planning on going anywhere. Once my son ages out of the kid classes he will move on to the adult classes and kick boxing will also be an option for him. I have already added my nephew

I started going to Movimento back in June 2017 when I found a Groupon for kickboxing, something I had always wanted to try. The kickboxing classes were amazing, and I was hooked after my first class. Herc, the kickboxing instructor was very patient with me as a beginner, and also a great motivator; I had never pushed myself as hard as I did in kickboxing class. After a few months, I began to have an interest in the Brazilian Jiu Jitsu classes that began just as the kickboxing class ended. I had never imagined it would be something I would be interested in, but as someone who was very interested

This local hidden gem is amazing. The owner and trainer, Israel (Iszy) is probably one of the hardest working instructors in the industry, yet he's the nicest and most humble guy ever. For anyone looking to either get in shape, stay in shape or simply try something new - this is the place to be. The entire team is very welcoming from the very first time stepping into the gym. Jiu Jistu had helped me learn so much about myself, pushing my limitations and overcoming fears and owe it all to Iszy and the amazing teammates at Movimento.

I have been training with Professor Israel Reyes and Movimento BJJ since 2013. Before that, I had trained at various gyms in different martial arts. This academy has a family vibe to go along with exceptional training and instruction. I highly recommend that you stop in to see what Movimento BJJ is all about if you're interested in getting a great workout in while learning self-defense!

Movimento BJJ is a really fantastic school that offers some of the best BJJ training you can find in Chicago. Israel Reyes is a phenomenal jiu-jitsu competitor and an even better instructor: one of those people with a real gift for coaching, who can consistently get you to push yourself beyond what you thought were your limits. Thanks to this training, I have gone from borderline-overweight and struggling seriously with exercise-induced asthma, to being in the best shape I have ever experienced and even winning tournaments while hardly touching my inhaler. Seriously--awesome--workouts! Classes

This is long overdue. I tried out movimento because I wanted to become more active, and wanted something different. I found a Groupon for 2 weeks or one month of unlimited kickboxing classes, and I went with the one month.
Israel was very helpful and all members were welcoming towards me despite me being a newcomer and complete beginner. I definitely learned a lot in the jiu jitsu classes. Isreal pushed me to learn moves even if I thought they were too difficult for me. In one day he had me flip him onto a mat! I really wish I could have come more often.
Herc was amazing, too. He didn't

From the day I walked in Isreal Reyes made me feel welcome and appreciated. The more I trained with him as a 39 year old while belt the more his quiet passion ignited a part of me that can only be called "Sacred". For the past four years I have trained two to three times a week consistently. The friendship, the community, the passion that Isreal imparts is a very special thing. Ask yourself how many black belts with world championship credentials consistently roll with white belts? He took me on as a fat bloated stressed out flab of a man and forged my true self. For that and many

I started with the unlimited month groupon pass for kickboxing and have been hooked ever since. Herc (kickboxing instructor) is great at altering his teaching to suit beginners and the more advanced students. Each day is different, so it's impossible to be bored (which was my issue with the gyms I've been to). The classes are usually small, so you get individual attention. I know a bunch of kickboxing classes just have a ton of bags and everyone follows the instructor for the entire class, but that isn't the case here. The workouts are set up into stations (bags, kettleball

Started going here about 2-3 months ago and really like it so far. Everyone is very friendly, helpful and it's a great workout. I've only taken the jiu jitsu classes so far but the kickboxing looks fun too.
The classes are an hour and a half and the first 15-20 minutes is cardio, another 10 minutes for stretching, 30 minutes to learn/practice a few moves and the last half hour is sparring. I still have no clue what I'm doing but it's a great workout and a lot of fun!

Came in through a Groupon, and was hooked. I tried out the Brazilian Jujitsu classes first, but rolling around on the ground doing a contact sport wasn't quite my thing, so I tried the Muay Thai kickboxing. Five months later, I'm pretty much hooked. Izao and Herc are both great instructors, and really patient and encouraging.
The kickboxing classes are five days a week, Sunday-Thursday, 5:30-6:30 PM on the weekdays and 9:15-10:15 AM on Sunday.

If you're looking for an awesome place to pick up kickboxing (and not that cardio kickboxing stuff) while getting in shape, then this is definitely the place to go!
I first went to Movimento thanks to an awesome Groupon deal and was immediately hooked. I had taken "kickboxing" classes before, but I had never actually done bag work or had one-on-one time with an instructor who has the experience that Herc does. Once my month was up, I signed up to become a member, which is something I rarely do because I'm kind of a cheapskate. But, I knew it was worth it.

Movimento is a school on the rise. That's saying something in a time where mma and jiujitsu schools seem to be popping up all over the place.
The first thing you notice is the size of the classes. They're small. For now. An average class will have less than 10 participants. What this means is that you will on a daily basis have a chance for personal instruction from a world champion jiujitsu practitioner. I've had the privilege of rolling/sparring with Israel Reyes, even though I am a newcomer to the art. Whether he's rolling with students, or instructing a class, he adjusts
