DVMS was started in 1965 by a group of caring parents wanting a Montessori education for their young children. Since then, it is a place where the work of children is valued and individuality respected. The importance of family is esteemed and parent involvement is encouraged. Our experienced staff is committed to providing the highest level of education and care for each child enrolled in our programs.

DVMS was founded in 1965 as a non-profit, non-discriminatory organization with a parent Board of Directors. With a present enrollment of over 150 children, DVMS continues to look for ways to integrate parents, children and the community to form a unique and fulfilling experience for all involved.
From its movement, outdoor classrooms and extracurricular programs including dance, music, soccer, creative dramatics, Spanish and Mandarin to its "Meet the community" field trips and school events, DVMS has been successful in its approach for over 45 years.For most of its history, DVMS has been affiliated with the American Montessori Society ("AMS"), and has received that organization's highest accolades.

The "Montessori Method, " developed by Dr. Maria Montessori, is based on the belief that early childhood is the time when each child actively works to create the person he or she will someday become. Dr. Montessori believed that no human being is educated by another person, but rather, that each individual educates himself or herself.
Our administrative staff is here to lend support to our entire school community, and are happy to answer your questions and facilitate communication. Jayne's Montessori journey began as a parent, observing her two sons as young children in their Montessori school, where she was a volunteer, classroom assistant, and elementary teacher.
We are proud of our established and experienced staff. They are committed to providing the highest level of education and care to meet the developmental needs of each child enrolled in our programs. Head teachers at DVMS are Montessori certified and trained to teach according to the Montessori philosophy and method.
Lana Burmenko loves children and is very passionate about teaching. When she found the Montessori way of learning, she felt as if she found her new purpose and was excited to pursue this career. Lana has been guiding children through Montessori way since 2013 and considers DVMS her second home. Her time spent at DVMS has inspired her to take Montessori training that gives her deeper understanding of the why and how of Montessori.
