In 1987, while teaching in Japan, I found a massage specialist who banished my back pain and improved my posture. He encouraged me to follow through on my curiosity and pursue a career in bodywork when I got back to the States. At the time, choosing a bodywork career was a road less traveled. However, I took the plunge and enrolled in a small and innovative curriculum in Cambridge, MA.
Flowing integrative Muscular Therapy paired with other specific anatomy based therapeutic massage techniques including Neuromuscular and Trigger Point Therapy work together to release and unwind long standing tension patterns and to speed recovery from injury. Too much pressure can perpetuate a pain cycle.
Prenatal, Lymphatic, and Deep Tissue Massage, when used together, work amazingly well to provide relief from the pain, tension, and swelling often experienced during pregnancy. Prenatal massage alleviates stress and strain during the many changes and challenges of pregnancy. Lymphatic massage reduces edema, pain, and anxiety.
Your lymph system cleanses your body of toxins, supports your healthy immune system, and restores optimal fluid balance. During lymphatic massage, gentle slow circular strokes direct excess fluid in the direction of lymphatic flow. Picture tree roots after a rainstorm; Lymphatic massage moves lymph fluid through the lymph system from the smallest ducts towards the major vessels and returns the lymph fluid to the circulatory system.
Whether you are being treated for cancer now or your cancer is in remission, an Oncology Massage Therapist is trained to consider your current symptoms and your cancer health history. Your session will be adjusted accordingly. Pressure, depth or direction of flow may be modified. This will ensure that your massage session will be safe, effective, and beneficial.
