In 1900, the club hosted the "Second Annual CAA Circus" featuring Barney, a 3,000 lb Elephant who willingly climbed the stairs to the 4th floor, but needed a little liquid encouragement (in the form of a gallon of whiskey) to climb down. It doesn't get more Chicago than this 1893 icon of old-world design and good cheer.

Here, you'll rub elbows with locals and travelers alike. The architecture, born and bred of the post-Great Chicago Fire, fits hand in glove with our storied Chicago Loop location on Michigan Ave, across from Millennium Park. Let our team host you in one of our celebrated social spaces, like Cindy's, located on our rooftop.
Services
We never forget where we came from. And neither will you. With echoes of banging billiard balls, tossed poker chips and clinking glasses resonating through the halls, our 1893 Venetian Gothic landmark is a living, breathing ode to Chicago's rich story-where the spirit of play reigned supreme. After all, this is the city where the can-do attitude of Ernie "Let's Play Two!" Banks lives on.
Introducing the Topgolf Swing Suite at the Chicago Athletic Association, rooted in the building's rich history of athletics and spirited play. Located on the hotel's ground floor level, the Topgolf Swing Suite features two of the most advanced indoor golf and interactive gaming simulator bays available, offering virtual golf experiences and more to hotel guests and locals alike.
While there's certainly much to do in and around downtown and near Millennium Park, our Chicago Loop hotel on Michigan Avenue is practically a world unto itself. Seven dining establishments. A fitness center. Sweeping views to Lake Michigan's blue horizon. Secrets hidden among the trophy and book cases.
Where members of Chicago Athletic Association once recharged, you'll find a distinctive array of thoroughly contemporary hotel rooms, suites, and amenities throughout these elegant chambers. Panoramic views overlooking downtown Chicago, including the iconic Millennium Park, the Art Institute of Chicago, and Lake Michigan, just steps from the Chicago Symphony Center and the Theater District.
Beyond specialty coffee and premium Wi-Fi, we're committed to bringing you an array of amenities as unique at our historic property during your stay. In order to provide this collection of services, a $25 Founders Fee will be applied to your reservation nightly. 10% discount for all Chicago Athletic Association Online Store purchases (excludes gift cards).

I love the feel of this hotel. it’s old school wood and comfort with a cool fun party vibe in their lobby, in their main floor game room bar and the roof top bar w/view. the rooms are moderately sized but really well appointed. the gym is great.

I stayed here in the fall of 2021 for a sight seeing trip to Chicago. The hotel room is fairly large and clean. We liked the decoration in the room, it has modern amenities but gives you a feel of staying at hotel 100 years ago.
The hotel also have lots of interesting rooms thanks to its history, however I didn't explore much since my stay is fairly short and I spend the time exploring Chicago.
The service is very good, I like how easy is to message the hotel for any need. The people on the ground floor are also very proactive at helping guests.

The main building is oozing with old world style. The reading and drawing rooms are appointed with gorgeous ornate fireplaces and having my morning breakfast felt like something out of an HP novel without giving JK money. The food isn't inexpensive but I didn't expect it to be. The annex building where our rooms were feels slightly disconnected but they were comfortable nonetheless. This is definitely the most masculine hotel I've ever stayed in, but in a fine-cigar and whiskey way, instead of grey granite way.
The service was impeccable. From the moment Dave(he was our favorite) opened the first

Chicago Athletic Association pros were that the rooms was very nice, front desk staff was nice and the location was great. The cons were that every eight to ten minutes they asked us for your vaccine status even though we were already stamped on our wrist and had a sticker on our room key identifying ourselves as fully vaccinated. No pantry on site to buy anything. The worst thing about this hotel is that they sub out their guest’s experience by letting third party companies run their bars and restaurants. The staff and management at The Game Room were short, abrupt, rude and unprofessional.

We had a GREAT room that did not have a view BUT WAS QUIET AND peaceful! The views for Chicago are outside! Get out and walk around, sleep in your room.

I didn't stay at the Chicago Artistic Association so I can not rate the rooms, but I visited their lobby restaurant many times and I love it. It's called the 'Drawing Room'. It's gorgeous gothic; it's warm and inviting. He staff is great. They were welcoming and kind. Tip them well, they deserve it. Good service really ads to the charm.

UPDATE: So below I talk about the faulty wiring in our room which totally blew out. Both my phone charger and iPad charger were totally fried before we even checked out. Two days later my brand new iPad Pro I got for Christmas is not holding a charge. Luckily there is insurance on it, but watch out for this place.
I booked a beautiful founder’s room with an enormous fireplace for 2 nights for my 30th birthday for me and two friends. On the first morning the electrical wiring in the room blew out. We had to switch to another founder’s room which though lovely, was smaller, with less seating

One of the best hotel experiences I have ever had and I wish I stayed for more than one night. Every single employee, from the front desk, to the restaurants, security, and everyone in between was incredibly nice and helpful. We lost a credit card at one point and the front desk even managed to find that and get it back to us! Gorgeous hotel, so much to do, amazing location, I couldn't recommend it enough.

What an incredible experience I had at the Chicago Athletic Association! I am a wedding photographer and after having shot over 400 weddings, this venue stands out amongst some of the best. The catering staff is second to none, and the food was impeccable! I also stayed here overnight for two nights and could not have been more impressed with the staff. The bellmen were so kind and accommodating (specifically Nick and Dave). And the front desk staff are wonderful. I misplaced my coat and Darius went above and beyond to locate it for me. The room itself was clean, quiet, and comfortable.

I only came for a drink and to play some games during my Chicago stay and what a fun little place to hang and have some drinks. It’s got a very speakeasy meets Hogwarts vibe. The game room was a blast and there is a little “study” type area on the opposite side with fireplaces and leather couches to chill out on, so some work or enjoy a small bite from the bar and warm up next to one of the many fireplaces.
