Claims of amalgam fillings causing autism spectrum disorders, Alzheimer's disease, and multiple sclerosis are unproven. The ADA and the FDA have confirmed amalgam safety. Amalgam can be used successfully in very difficult situations where tooth colored fillings will fail prematurely.
