Med Associates was extremely negligent! Why was someone able to access the workstation? When an employee is not at their workstation it should be at the lockscreen. In addition, employees should have very limited access to a patients private information! Thieves can't steal what you don't have. Data minimization is a powerful element of preparedness. The rules are disarmingly simple: Don't collect information that you don't need. Reduce the number of places where you retain the data. Grant employees access to sensitive data on an "as needed" basis, and keep current records of who has access to
