Aging infrastructure, funding, congestion, remote access, land development, movement of goods, safety, and protection of our natural resources all play a crucial role in transportation projects. With more than half of our work focused on transportation-related issues, Shannon & Wilson integrates geotechnical, environmental, and natural resource services to provide a single source for multiple project challenges.

Much of our geotechnical services work is in the study of transportation-related alignments and facilities. This work includes highways and roadways, bridges, elevated structures and tunnels. On most of our transportation projects we are also involved in conducting geotechnical studies and providing design recommendations for project elements relative to foundation design, earth retention, pavement and site drainage.

Shannon & Wilson is attuned to the myriad technical and logistical issues ports, airports, military agencies and private marina owners can face when improving existing facilities or developing new ones. For ports and waterways, our capabilities include geotechnical, geologic, seismic and environmental studies for the design of deep foundation systems for waterfront facilities.

Shannon & Wilson has worked for all Class I railroads in the United States and Canada, many of the short lines, and several transit authorities providing passenger rail. Our thorough understanding of rail safety requirements and engineering operations allows us to provide innovative, cost-effective services ranging from routine design and construction engineering to on-call emergency response.
