Kilohana Preschool
We offer our students an integrated program in language arts, awareness of the world and other cultures, music, art, physical skills and pre-reading readiness that is balanced between teacher-directed and child-initiated activities. Our goal is to help your child reach his or her potential physically, mentally, emotionally, socially and spiritually in an atmosphere of love, security, acceptance and success.

We have four large, bright classrooms plus a napping room for our children. These classes are divided according to age, with the youngest children having the smallest class size. Class size ranges from 12 to 20 students. Staff to child ratios are usually 1:6 (2 year olds), 1:9 (3-4 year olds), 1:12 (4-5 year olds), with a teacher and an aide in each classroom.
Services
Kilohana Preschool was established in 1966 because of the desire of Kilohana Church to be in ministry to young families in the new community of Niu Valley. It continues to be a non-denominational, non-profit school providing educational service to the communities of East Honolulu. Kilohana Preschool is located on the grounds of Kilohana United Methodist Church near the entrance to Niu Valley in East Oahu.
Kilohana Preschool is licensed to admit 68 pupils from two to six years of age, who are toilet trained, on a non-discriminatory basis without regard to race, color or religion. Applications are available throughout the year for the following school year and admission is open on a continual basis, space permitting.

This preschool is awesome!! We heard about this preschool from one of my daughter's friend's mom. Our son has been in this school almost a year and we love Auntie Lori and his teachers! My daughter was in different preschool (KCCA) when she was young, but I wish she went here too! I love their playground, it's so big and under the tree so kids can stay cool. They made pumpkin patch area so we could take pictures! So awesome!!

My husband and I moved to Hawaii Kai this past June and I am originally from central/west Oahu, so I am pretty new to this side of the island. This made it hard for me to choose the best preschool for my 4 year old son since I was just unfamiliar with the schools. I considered another school but due to having a baby at home and being pregnant, couldn't dedicate myself to as many volunteer hours as they required from the parents. I needed to find a good school that I could drop my son off in the morning and pick him up everyday in the afternoon without extra commitments of my time.

Great school. My kids love their teachers. The staff are nice, friendly, and responsive. My kids keeps talking about school and their friends. The kids do a lot of activists and creative things. My kids are so proud of their drawings and artwork that I am running out of wall space at home to post them. My kids are also happy that there are other kids that could speak Japanese.

Absolutely amazing preschool! We have been here over a year and LOVE IT! Teachers are very nurturing and genuinely love what they do. Learning is hands on and focused on the emotional, social, and academic development of the each child. The facility is the BEST you will get on the East side - huge playground area fully shaded and equipped w swings, sandbox, and multiple play structures! Our son has a his own personal park everyday :) Our son started w Ms Livia (Red door) and is now with Ms Soo (Yellow door) and immediately took to each teacher - he's very shy so this is testament to how great

My children and I LOVE this little preschool! Auntie Lori is doing a wonderful job as new director. All of the staff are very pleasant and my children love their teachers. The playground is so enjoyable for the kids and there are always new creative activities for the children in their classroom. You won't be disappointed in this daycare for your children.

I don't right a lot of reviews. It's got to be really good or really bad. Well this school is really good. Under the new direction of Auntie Lori and the amazing teaching staff of Ms. Cory and the other teachers. I can't say enough. My child learned so much when he was there and loved every day he was there. The afternoon staff is amazing too. They are learning about culture, the world, the universe, creating, playing, and learning respect. Not to mention it has the best playground on the island. And it is in a cool valley that stays cool. He is sad to leave with all

My son loves going to school here. If I try to pick him up early he is disappointed because he is having so much fun. His teachers are caring, organized, involved, and present with his needs. He frequently comes home and shares with me all the things he learned at school with excitement. For a period of time he struggled with stuttering and both of his teachers assisted him with having patience for himself and slowing down. It has helped him so much. I am immensely grateful that we have found such a supportive and beautiful place for him to grow and learn.

My little girl loves it here so much that she does not want to leave when it is time to go. She runs around the big awesome play space and has a great time. Her teachers are wonderful, caring and kind and I hear a lot of laughing. Besides feeling safe, I also feel like it is a great diverse community of parents and children. The new director, Auntie Lori is really pulling things together. It is super reasonable compared to other preschools in the area too. I know they had issues in years past, but with current staff and parents, I think it is a great opportunity for parents who are looking for

New direction of school is a disgrace. Because of larger than life egos, several of the amazing teachers who have been there for years, were unjustly fired, thus causing other great teachers to resign...all about a month before the school year was about to start. A free form style system with no real structure, taught by new teachers that have no real guidance abilities, lead by a director with no real experience. So sad what had happened to a once wonderful and caring place. Steer clear of Kilohana...many other wonderful options in the area with experienced staff and a director whose priority

Have to agree with my daughter! Kilohana was fabulous until the new very novice director came in. My grandsons art projects were thrown away! Without letting his parents know! Horrible! What is wrong with you people!
Thankfully he is in a wonderful pre school now.
The projects he did are forever gone.
SHAME ON YOU

It breaks my heart what has happened to this wonderful little school. My daughter started here in early 2014 as a 2 year old. We had good friends who had spent years with their kids their and it had a wonderful reputation. My daughter had a wonderful experience, the teachers were wonderful caring and loving. My youngest began attending in 2016 and his experience there has been completely different.

Unfortunately, since the previous director retired the school has fallen apart. The church board has made a number of poor decisions to the detriment of the school and most importantly the children

I sent my second daughter. My third daughter is going to Kilohana preschool. For my second one I choose the preschool because of the reasonable tuition, just close to where we live, and big tree on the playground. The experience with my second daugher at Kilohana was amazing. Therefore I decided to send my little one. All the teachers are very friendly and making welcome atomosphere fore the children everyday. The class activity is very organized. Now my littleone's class has catapillar as a class pet to learn how catapillar grows into butterfly. The learning subject in this week is all about

This is my daughter's 2nd year at Kilohana Preschool. The school is very well maintained and very clean.
The class sizes are fairly small and there are two teachers per classroom.
My daughter loves going to Kilohana, everyone there is extremely friendly and tuition is affordable not to mention that the class times/schedule are also very flexible- you have a choice from sending your child 2, 3 or 5 days a week with early morning care and or late afternoon care ( perfect for 2 working parents ).
All of the teachers are very warm and loving to the children, it's a nice combination of
