Joe has been in the jewelry business for over 30 years. Born in Sao Paulo, Brazil, he started his career at just nine years old as a watchmaker. He later began an apprenticeship, developing skills in jewelry carving and setting, and opened his first jewelry store in Brazil at age 17. Since then, he has never stopped doing business.
That entrepreneurial spirit led Joe to move to the United States over 12 years ago, where he worked for other jewelry stores before starting his own company. It is hard to imagine historic Main Street without McKay Diamonds, and Joe knew that his new ownership would not change what McKay created: a place where your jeweler is your friend and your experience there will be one to remember.

I came to Salt Lake for Christmas. I was walking down Regent Street to go to City Creek Mall and happened to see McKay Jewelers on the way. I had a ring that my diamond fell out of and I needed it sized up. When I went in I didn’t expect to be able to get it fixed but they were the best! They knew I was on a tight schedule and they had it done in less than 24 hours. It looks better now than the day I bought it!! Thank you so much McKay Diamonds &Jewelry. My engagement ring is platinum and I caught part of it on a drawer and my diamond fell out! It was Saturday night and I thought I'm probably going to have to wait until Monday to get this fixed. I may have to wait until after Christmas. We just got engaged in October and a lot of the family we are going to see on Christmas hasn't even seen my ring and I wanted to show it off. I've gone into McKay Diamonds a few times randomly to fix necklaces and similar small asks. They were always so helpful and kind so when it came time to resize and appraise my engagement ring, they were my first choice. They educated me on the process (very helpful for someone with no knowledge) and made me feel at ease throughout. My ring looks amazing and fits perfectly! Will definitely come back when it's time for the wedding ring!

The owners of McKay Diamonds are extremely knowledgeable, so friendly and warm, and overall lovely people!! I had taken my emerald ring to a jeweler nearby, and they told me that emeralds are extremely difficult to work with and were very unfriendly. I left and came here and I'm so glad I did!! They did an excellent job resizing my ring and making the stone secure. - it looks absolutely perfect! I wish I had a need to visit them all the time because they're so awesome!

This dude is legit. I will never go to another jeweler. I was deciding between him and Shane Co. he offered to custom design the ring I was looking for for 1,000$ cheaper, with the same warranty. He really knows his stuff, he treats you like family, and you’ll walk away with better jewelry at a better price. 6/5 stars if I could.

There are not enough stars to say how great Joe, Sandra and Kim are or the level of skill Joe has, as a jeweler. I have a very unique, vintage filigree ring with 13 mine cut diamonds that had worn so thin in several places, it have broken apart. Go here for all your ring and jewelry needs!! Do not go to a big store where you will be treated like a number. The owner and his family are SO incredibly kind. They made me feel comfortable from the second I walked in. Jeweler resized my ring to the correct size within MINUTES right in front of me. He is so passionate about his work and will even customize your ring. Your stones will sparkle into another dimension! This place is a true gem!

I took my engagement ring to get sized to McKay diamonds. It was worth the drive from herriman. Joe sized it while I waited. It took about 20 mins and it looks perfect, I didn't have to leave it at the store and wait 2 weeks. Joe wants his wife Sandra are very knowledgeable and helpful. I'll definitely be shopping with them again.

The best place to get jewelry repaired! The owners are the sweetest people and do an outstanding job. I have had my engagement ring cleaned and checked here 3 separate times and it always comes out looking like a brand new ring. They have also resized the band and replaced a missing diamond. Highly recommend this shop! The only place I trust with my rings and jewelry. The repair prices are super affordable too!

I had a silver bracelet that needed to be reshaped after I bent it by resizing it myself. I was walking by while I was wearing it so I stopped in and he reshaped it on the spot, looks perfect now. They are so lovely and I love this shop on Main Street, after this experience McKay Diamonds will be my go to shop for all my Jewelry needs.

I had a ring that needed to be resized from a 8.5 to a 9.5 and they resized it perfectly on the spot in 1 minute fit $30. They also said I was able to come back in within 30 days to adjust it for free if it still felt too tight. They were really nice, very quick, and affordable. I highly recommend.

I recently stopped in to size my ring up to a 10 from a 9.5 and was surprised to be told it was $60 this time. Same adjustment, double the price. Seems a bit odd.

Family owned shop in a great historic location. The owner really knows his stuff, and was super helpful in sizing some tricky rings I had. I couldn't be happier with the results, and even though I wanted to change a few things after, he was more than willing to do what it took to make me happy. Amazing experience just like all the reviewers. I was looking for a real deal jeweler I could trust with my family heirloom ring. Trusted the reviews and I'm so glad I did. He did an amazing job restoring and rebuilding the setting on my ring and resetting the diamond. I really really wish I knew of this place when we made my engagement ring. We went to a chain (Jared's) and had a terrible experience. As long as I'm in Utah I'll be coming here for any jewelry needs!

Walked in to see about cleaning and tightening the prongs on my wedding ring. The shop owner was extremely thorough and detailed when he looked it over. Ended up finding a diamond that had gone crooked and could have fallen out at any time. He made sure to show me through the magnifying glass and explain everything. He only charged me $30 to fix the prong and clean both my ring and band. I highly recommend going here for any and all jewelry needs!

Last night I got engaged to my best friend, and while we might be a perfect fit, the ring was unfortunately not.

Unlike other places that will charge for inspection if you did not buy the ring there, McKay didn't charge me a cent.
I lost my ring couple days ago at a parking lot. Luckily a lady found it and she said it might got runover couple times. Eventually, I needed an inspect on the ring to check if it was damaged or not. My fiancé found McKay on Yelp and it was the only one has good review.
McKay is a pretty narrow store. I almost missed it and went to the wrong store. The store salesman greeted me even though he was helping couple customers. While the customers was looking through the booklet

I took a ring to Shane Co to see if they could resize it for me. They said they couldn't because the diamonds were pressure set, and that requires a custom jeweler. I found McKay on Yelp and took it in to ask. He told me the same thing, the pressure set diamonds are very tricky to resize, especially going down from a 7 to a 5. After about ten minutes reviewing the options, he decided it was worth a try to see if it could be done.
