Jiu Jitsu is a challenging and rewarding martial art. Unlike many other martial arts, it has no striking, instead it takes place mostly on the ground and uses techniques and leverage that lead to applying submission holds, like Arm Bars and Triangle Chokes. Jiu Jitsu has many benefits, but at it roots, it is a Martial Art that gives you skills to help protect yourself.
30 minutes of sparring in Jiu Jitsu burns approximately 507 calories and 60 minutes burns 1015 calories! Many things claim to be a true full body workout, with Jiu Jitsu you get the real deal. When training, every muscle in your body is required as you stand, lift, push, pull, move, and roll around the mat trying to execute techniques on your training partners.

Mike and Lenna Uhlinger always dreamed of opening their own Jiu Jitsu Gym. Together they opened MGA Jiu Jitsu in 2012 and have been teaching and running it since. Coach Mike is a 2nd Degree Black Belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Coach Lenna is a Black Belt with First Degree. Both received their Black Belts from Brazilian Jiu Jitsu World Champion Cassio Werneck.
Jiu jitsu works every muscle in your body allowing you to notice a difference almost immediately. You will recognize how much easier it is to lose weight and keep it off. Jiu Jitsu develops amazing endurance, and the best part is that you will not even notice how hard you are working! One of the most difficult aspects of endurance training is that it's too easy to focus on how much time we are on the treadmill or how many calories we have burned.
Not comfortable training with guys? We totally understand. While women are obviously allowed to attend all classes at MGA, we offer a Women's Only program in the morning. Having dedicated women's only Jiu Jitsu classes allows us to provide a more comfortable environment for beginners. We are extremely lucky to have Coach Lenna be the head of our Women's Program.
It doesn't matter if your child is short, tall, big, fast, slow, or small. There are so many techniques in Jiu Jitsu allowing for every size and shape of person to be successful. Confidence is built through accomplishing hard things. When your child masters a skill and executes a move against a fully resisting training partner; it's because of the hard work they put in.
In Jiu Jitsu Class, often shortened to just "Gi, " students will wear what looks like a traditional martial arts uniform called a Gi. However, it is much heavier duty than those typically worn in striking based martial arts.
The Jiu Jitsu Gi serves two main purposes; one is to represent clothing you wear every day (Jacket, Pants, etc) and the other is to provide a sturdy material for learning and practicing techniques that would otherwise rapidly destroy common, everyday street clothing.Of the two styles, Gi training is typically a little slower pace and also provides for many amazing techniques.

Mike and Lenna are two of my favorite people. They really know how to teach Jiujitsu in order to make you a complete grappler. I have not trained at another gym and gotten the results that I have here at Mixed Grappling Arts. They are warm, welcoming and always have a sense of humor about themselves. They really know their stuff and take Jiujitsu seriously without all the formalities of bowing or calling them professor. You really feel you can get to know them and become apart of their Jiujitsu family.
This school is not only great for adult Jiujitsu but for kids as well. They must have over a

Mixed Grappling Arts is a great place to train. The interior is clean, and there is ample amount of mat space. The instructors at MGA are very enthusiastic and clearly explain step-by-step techniques during each lesson and actively participates with the students. I would recommend MGA to people of all ages and levels of experience.

Like most people, I was looking for a clean, professional, and friendly environment where my daughter and I could train. I found Mixed Grappling Arts to be such a place! Lenna and Mike are a husband and wife team that are very knowledgeable, helpful, and super friendly! I drive from Jackson just to go to MGA. Although there are a few Schools closer to where I live, MGA is well worth the drive. Their prices are an exceptional value! The School is kept extremely clean and it is very Family friendly.
If you are in the area or even an hour away (such as I am) look no further than Mixed Grappling Arts

Mike and Lenna do a great job! The 4-7 age group class is manages extremely well. The children all have a lot of fun and learn something new every lesson! Mike and Lenna are extremely patient with this age group as well.
The adult classes are very well organized and great for all experience levels. Don't expect to show up and not work hard! The coaches are very active participants in training and expect the same effort in return. Whether you are joining to compete, joining just to learn self defense or even just for a great workout this is a great place to do it! If you are in the Elk Grove/Galt

I started training with MGA in March of last year, and it's easily the best decision I've ever made. My family and I immediately felt comfortable when we first walked in. It's a very welcoming environment with no egos, and everyone there is friendly and there to help. Mike and Lenna are awesome coaches! They make learning so fun, and take the time to break down the lessons in great detail. You never feel rushed, and can go at your own pace. The gym itself is immaculate! The mats are mopped and cleaned multiple times daily, and it always smells nice and tidy in there. I definitely recommend Mixed

Mike and Lena are excellent instructors. There are kid and adult classes for people of all ages. Lena encourages all the women in the class to be confident and to use the skills they have learned while grappling and Mike is excellent at making sure you roll with the correct techniques. Together they make an awesome team! They really show you that no matter your physical ability or age, you can be successful at jujitsu. Come check it out!

I started my Jiu-Jitsu journey back in 2010, trained at many great places and under many great instructors before. But hands down, this is by far this is the best place that I have ever been to. Starting off, this place is very clean and organized; everything is spotless. The instruction here is also phenomenal. Furthermore, the lessons here is explained in a very clear way and the curriculum is designed for the students to progress at the fastest rate possible. What I love most about MGA though, is the amount of individual attention you get from the instructors. They will help you shape your Jiu
