Charles River Kokikai Aikido
Kokikai Aikido is a modern Japanese martial art that teaches coordination of mind and body using self-defense techniques to develop one's strongest state. Classes include both men and women practicing on equal footing. Designed to defend against multiple attackers, it is an effective form of self-defense that offers many solutions to aggressive behavior by others.

As a member of our dojo, you will learn to derive maximum effect from minimal effort. Regardless of your gender, strength or size, you will discover how to harness your attacker's energy, master techniques to stop attacks, neutralize opponents, and safely avoid conflict with grace, agility and dynamic power.
Services
We begin our classes with a brief period of seated meditation to center the breathing and calm the mind. This begins the integration of mind and body. We then move on to stretching, ki exercises and basic techniques with partners. As a beginning student, you'll be taught proper technique for forward and backward falls and rolls.
Although you can find many descriptions and videos of aikido on the web, the best way to answer this question for yourself is to come to class and try it. Martial arts are studied for self-defense and self-improvement, but aikido differs from other martial arts in that the practitioner seeks to achieve self-defense without injury to attackers.
