Today, mindfulness/ meditation 5 minute apps are very popular to help with stress.

However, many people do not realize that the outer body movements of Tai Chi Chuan are the perfect compliment to moving the inner chi energy throughout the body which helps when practicing mindfulness/meditation. The meditator needs this movement to strengthen the body and to help open the psychic centers to be most effective.

A one hour session at Mountain Lion includes Qigong warm-ups, meditation/ breathing to calm the mind, and drills performed slowly to help students cultivate deep concentration and mind/

When my son first started at golden lion we noticed positive improvements. There did seem to be favoritism amongst a selected group of students with the "black sash" designation but that wasn't a huge deterrent. What we began to notice though, is that advancement did not seem to be based on merit, but on allegiance to the teacher - in the form of paying for all the extra costs associated with membership. That said, we paid for every single extra cost, not in hopes of black sash acceptance, but in hopes of doing what is necessary to be a part of the community.

Fast forward to covid

Recently, I signed up for the Power Fit class, a newly created fitness class using kungfu principles and traditional training methods. Equipment? The wooden staff, the bag for punching and kicking, concrete filled containers, etc. Old school. You alternate stations, going from one to another for 2 minute circuits. Kicking and punching the bag goes into holding the long 7 feet wooden staff wth one arm and standing on one leg, and then jumping over hurdles the next.
So far so good, I have lost 6 lbs in 3 weeks, and the workouts are only 45 minutes twice a week. Sigh Dong, the master of the school

I have two boys who have been going here two or three times a week every week for over a year. They have nothing but good things to say about Si Fu and Golden Lion. Their confidence has increased along with their discipline and skill level. They learn forms, sparring and double weapon sparring. and they have a constant group of kids who are also committed to kung fu who have been advancing along with them. It's a great school, highly recommend.

I'm very happy I ended up at Golden Lion Martial Arts. The training is challenging and rewarding. The instructors really push the students to try harder. When I think I have a low stance (in my opinion, not theirs), they tell me to go lower. So lower I go. They want the students to improve. There is and always will be something to work and improve on. Sometimes its tough love, but this school strives to make you the best martial artist you can be.

My name is Jocelyn Cheung and I am twenty seven years old. I have been at Golden Lion Martial Arts School since I was sixteen years old. (2000) My reason for sticking with Golden Lion is because everyone is family and has always cared about me and each other. We mingle with each other by having picnics, movie night and not to mention we mingle with other students from the whole Plum Blossom Federation by competing in Tournaments and other cool events.
Even though we have fun and joke around, practicing at Golden Lion is tough. They train you well and make sure you understand and practice

My daughter has been a Golden Lion student for 6 years. She started when she was 8 and I can truly say that the experience has been incredible. She loves the school and is completely dedicated to her practice.

Over the last 6 years, she has made great friends while becoming incredibly (I mean incredibly) strong in body, mind and spirit.

Martial art was never "my thing", but the Golden Lion has made me a real believer. The students and teachers are beyond impressive and the community is incredibly strong, supportive and diverse.

Highly recommended. Visit and become a believer

I trained at Golden Lion for a month last fall, having returned to the Bay Area and interested in continuing my martial arts training. I decided the school wasn't right for me, and I moved on.

The school does have a lot going for it. The teach a full curriculum of Chinese martial arts: hand-to-hand, weapons, forms, etc. The instructors are friendly but run vigorous classes. The other students and head instructor are friendly as well. Furthermore, because they knew I had background in other martial arts, the instructors worked to tweak the classes so I was learning new material.

I have been practicing at Golden Lion since 1999, both tai chi classes and kung fu. My goals have been to get a great workout, while at the same time understinging the connection between my body, my injuries, and the motivation/heart behind a life of health. Golden Lion has been very patient working with me - I take my time learning (I travel appx 2 months a year), but they are always there for me, reviewing the material I forgot and pushing me further than I though I could go. You have to put in the work - martial arts is not easy. You have to commit to practice. But GL has the heart to work with

In high school, my friends liked to call me "Princess Graceless" due to my utter lack of coordination and, well, grace. I was the tall, awkward girl who fell down stairs and wore splints on my fingers after getting them caught in heavy doors.

Flash forward a few ...ahem... years, and I'm a working mom with two young boys and very little "me" time. I need to be economical with the few free hours I have. I'd always fantasized about doing a martial art but figured I didn't fit the criteria - I'm neither in my 20s nor male with a black belt. On the suggestion

My child has been coming to this school for about seven years. This school has been excellent, for her in so many ways. She has really found a great sense of accomplishement and self confidence thanks to Sifu Dong. He is a wonderfaul teacher and brings a great balance of fun and hard work, which has kept her engaged the entire time. She is getting a well rounded balance of Chinese pholosophy as well as Martial Arts. I recomend this school for anyone especially those trying to find a wonderful place for their children to learn self defense and self control.

A needle in a haystack. In this instant coffee generation, it is hard to find someone that has taken the time to REALLY learn martial arts. You see a lot of schools use words like discipline, focus, self defense, but this school actually lives those values.
Sifu Dong has dedicated his life to teaching these arts. There are no short cuts here. I highly recommend this school.

Our children have been students of Golden Lion Martial Arts School for 6 years. Sifu David Dong has been their teacher. He is wonderful with children and knows how to motivate them to try their hardest and do their best. While doing this, he also understands the importance of having fun and incorporates games kids like to play into their martial arts training. This is a serious kung fu school of the highest quality. We especially like that the children are taught only to use kung fu in self defense and not to pick fights, start problems, or solve disagreements with violence. We are confident

A great school with Sifu Dong. Traditional forms, serious sparring, careful and caring, yet tough. I've since moved away, but was in the best shape of my life while going there. I've attended several other schools out of the area, including from grand masters, and this is the best school.

Great Kung Fu and Tai Chi school for all ages.

Kids learn discipline while they socialize, get exercise, and learn body coordination. The adults are a mix of genders, ages, and backgrounds. All of the instructors are genuine and caring. This is a great place for learning self defense, getting a cardio workout, stress relieving, and for strengthening the body.

Sonya and I have been shopping around for martial arts schools since we moved to this area. We've been to a few "sample" classes at different schools and so far haven't found anything that we like.

We haven't tried this place yet, but we went in and talked with Sifu Dong and some of the students. They were very welcoming, polite, and looked like they were getting a great workout. The people looked serious about their training, and also HAPPY! This is important to us, because so often in martial arts you get these psycho street warrior types who just want to smack people
