Ann Arbor Massage & Yoga Therapy
Our approach is informed by medical massage (traumatic brain injury) orthopedic massage (treating chronic and acute injuries), Ayurvedic and Thai massage ("lazy man's yoga"), Swedish Massage and more. Our approach to yoga is highly individualized. We focus on good biomechanical alignment and yoga for your body-type (ayurvedic dosha).

We study the benefits that current medical research finds, while also deeply honoring the wisdom of ancient ayurvedic and yogic knowledge. Our 200-hr teacher training introduces beginner and advanced students alike to the practices of classical hatha yoga, ayurvedic vinyasa yoga, anatomically-informed structural assessment, mindfulness meditation, and more.
Services
As the Yoga anatomy teacher for the 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training, she specializes in an embodied approach. Her interest has led her to study self-myofascial release using balls, foam rollers, and other tools. Her methodology in teaching anatomy focuses on an embodied experience of how fascia, bones, muscles and the nervous system work together in yoga postures, injuries, and movement patterns.
This year has been marked by genuine upheaval, stress, and worry. Our world seems to be going crazy, and the need for practices that ground our minds in the present moment, and soothes our frazzled nerves are needed more than ever. You're ready for it, we're ready for it.

You're also probably ready to let go of any practices, teachers, and organizations that espouse taking leave of your own intuition, body wisdom, and common sense in the name of "Yoga".Perhaps market driven "Yoga", that is devoid of the larger history and culture of India has you exhausted and confused?
Medical Massage is aimed at restoring function and reducing pain after a catastrophic collision injury. These sessions consist of scar tissue release, neuromuscular re-education, myofascial release for conditions such as brain injury, spinal cord injury, multiple fractures, or neurological disorders.
You can expect gentle, slow, and nurturing postures and flowing sequences that nourish the womb (or womb-space) and heart. We will begin with brief check-ins and end with simple English or Sanskrit songs. A perfect class for considerations specific to the female body or pelvis such as preconception and postpartum, peri-menopause, or simply surrounding a woman's cycle of bleeding.

As a bodyworker myself, I have received a LOT of massage in my time. Trevor and Miriam are two of my all time favorite practitioners to receive from. I always leave there feeling heard, held, and with so much more ease and openness in my body. Their depth of knowledge and attention to the individual goes above and beyond. They are the real deal. I can't recommend them enough.

Amber is an amazing massage therapist! She knows her anatomy and was able to help me with a chronic hip and knee problem that a physical therapist and chiropractor weren't able to help with. She's so pleasant and her room is very relaxing. She's the best but I hesitate to recommend her only because I don't want her to get too busy for me!!!

Miriam really helped me with some rehabilitation work I desperately needed on my recently broken arm. She does a great job working with me thru my pain, informing me as to what is going on with my body and doing it in a kind and peaceful way :D

Miriam was calm, warm, and welcoming when I arrived. I received a wonderful Thai yoga massage and felt great afterwards. I highly recommend. This one was a gift for my birthday, and I look forward to going back.

I've tried many massage therapists in the US and other countries and Trevor is one of the best. He's very intuitive and knows what areas need attention sometimes without me saying or even knowing myself. He also takes a holistic approach and considers what is going on in the body as a whole that could be affecting a localized area.

I have been seeing Miriam for massage for over a year. She took the time to get to know my body and can figure out what needs attention every time I come in! She is able to tailor the massages to how your feeling that day, or if you had a recent strain. Her massage room is comfortable, quiet, and clean. Her knowledge of the human body is fantastic! Highly recommend.

If you are looking for a massage to take the edge off a stressful week or have a chronic condition that requires a serious look, these folks can really help. My mobility was extremely compromised as a consequence of peripheral nephropathy. With a combination of Yoga postures, traditional massage, Thai massage and active isolated stretching I am able to walk a mile when I struggled to walk 50 feet. Their expertise goes beyond the massage table by teaching you how to use Yoga postures to aid in recovery and just as important sustainable heath. Invest in yourself and give them a try.

Such a restful and peaceful massage! And Miriam's not just about skill, but her inner compassion for everyone comes out through her massage. They're both such a sweet couple and work together with so much harmony. Such a pleasure to be around Trevor and Miriam. And I absolutely love the vibes at Yoga Maya!
