During this time of social distancing, the therapists at Karuna Counseling are offering the option of phone and video sessions. It is important to us to ensure the safety and well-being of our clients while continuing to offer the support and care that you are needing. Most clients may be comfortable with the idea of a phone appointment, but some folks may understandably feel unsure about how they will feel doing a session via video.
While video sessions do have a different feel to them, they are quite user-friendly and most people find that they are able to settle in and feel at ease once they get familiar with it. One of the benefits to phone and video sessions is that you get to be in the presence of the comforts of your home such as your pets, a comfortable chair, pillow or other soothing belongings.

Services
Karuna Counseling began in 1974 and is one of the oldest counseling collectives in the United States. Our initial mission was to provide high quality, compassionate care for women. Over the years we have grown, developed and expanded our focus. We now provide counseling services to adults, adolescents, families and couples in the Atlanta area.
My approach to therapy centers on the belief that "healing is making whole." Whether dealing with issues of addiction, depression and anxiety, self-knowledge and self-worth, sexual orientation and gender identity, trauma or relationship concerns, attention is, therefore, given to the whole of the individual - heart, mind, body and soul.
I have been influenced by many counseling theories but gravitate most strongly to those emphasizing a collaborative relationship where the client is viewed as the expert on their own life. I believe that human beings are always doing their best given the tools that they possess.
I also believe that our society differentially imparts barriers to certain groups and that often these obstacles, rather than personal failure, stand in the way of our goals. Most importantly, I believe that the therapy relationship is a potential vehicle for growth and my most fundamental goal is to create a safe and nurturing environment.

As an immigrant, I find myself pondering questions of home, identity, and belonging. I'm fortunate to have lived and studied in Kenya, Germany, England, and the US, where I have encountered multiple worldviews and ideas. I love people, speak four languages, and can relate to people from different cultures and backgrounds.
I am a licensed professional counselor specializing in work with adolescents, adults, individuals and families. Some of the most common concerns of my clients include depression, anxiety, loss, divorce, trauma, transition issues, coming out and parenting challenges. I also have extensive experience in working with adolescents and their families who are in crisis and need a safe environment to find resolution.
