For quite some time we dreamed of starting a locavore Asian restaurant. In 2009, Long Grain opened its doors in the beautiful seaside town of Camden, Maine. We call our cuisine "honest food" meaning we use seasonal and locally sourced ingredients, no inconvenient truths here. Although many consider Long Grain a Thai restaurant, our dishes are inspired by many different Asian cuisines and cultures.
Thai and Vietnamese street food, fare served in small eateries in Singapore and meals on dinner tables in Indonesia and Japan can all be found here. We look forward to welcoming you to our table.

This is one of the worst Asian restaurant I’ve ever tried. I’m not even picking on the authenticity of the food, it is simply just bad. The soy sauce noodles are extremely salty that even you eat it with rice it’s still way too salty. The Tom yum soup has a bitter taste to it. I can’t understand why. For this price point, the taste and the portion just doesn’t make any sense. Those 5 star reviews by all the “local guide” looks like paid reviews now.

Super happy to find this place! Get the custard brûlée in coconut creme and black sticky rice. Wow. Had the pad kemao w tofu, tofu larb, and brussel sprouts in a Vietnamese dressing (special). Loved the fresh noodles and the brussel sprout dish was delicious. It wasn’t spicy to me (kemao) and I appreciate they used local greens, but kale didn’t work well in a drunken noodle dish. Service was quick. Overall, really satisfied!

I think in comparison to some of the Thai food I've had from dc and VA, this lacked that punchy flavor and spice that I was hoping for but I also love my food outrageously spicy so it's a little difficult to judge on that. The food was great tho overall! We had the basil fried rice and pad ke mao with thin cuts of pork belly. Such big portions but we still finished them both off! Def get your bang for your buck, They are take out only so call ahead and have a nice little picnic outside :)

The best Thai food in Maine... possibly. Boda on a good day might win, but I want to try more dishes here.
I first tried to order food from them June 2020 and after calling repeatedly for 10 minutes, I was told there was a 7 hour wait and they were only accepting dinner orders. That didn't work for my plans, so I declined but knew I wanted to try them as soon as I could again. I found myself back in Camden recently and knew to call in my order right when they open at 11:30. That did the trick!
We had:
Pork dumplings - delicious flavor and super fresh. Wrappers were a tad thick.

Having come to Maine, in part, to get a taste of New England, I was reluctant to try Long Grain - in spite of the reviews. Then, after my wife tried calling about 30 times without getting ahold of anyone (either busy or just kept ringing), and I after I walked over to the restaurant to order in person only to be told we had to call (how frustrating), I gave up. I'm glad I relaxed my expectations just a bit, and we called back the next day for takeout (the only option during COVID) and ate it in our hotel room.
I'll start by saying this is the only time I've ever given five stars

I went once to this restaurant of my own free will , and twice , reluctantly with friends.
Each time , I found the food and service to be a total disappointment.
Frankly, I am baffled why anyone gives these people a good review.
I suspect that there is some large cross section of humanity that is really clueless what good food is suppose to taste like
Oh well, what do I know.
Try it, maybe you'll love it too.
I'm probably spoiled.

I can't believe it's taken us this long to try this place. Unfortunately they are only doing takeout at this time, but it's still so worth it. We had a large order with a little bit of everything. My favorites were the ramen (added extra spice and it was the best ramen I've ever had), the pork dumplings and the rice cakes. My husband loved the pad Thai. The flavor in every dish was outstanding.

We drove to Camden specifically to try Long Grain, and even though it was only takeout, I have zero regrets about the 1.5 hour drive. The food was beyond delicious.
I got the spicy night market noodles, and my partner got the Maine crab fried rice with a fried egg. Both exceeded my expectations for an Asian restaurant in a small town in Maine.
The spicy night market noodles came with a broth that created the perfect triad of sweet, sour, and spicy. It was such a unique flavor. The choice of rice noodles is perfect for the broth because it allows the broth to take center stage. The pork was also

Probably one of the best south East Asian restaurants in Maine.
It's a very busy place. We tried to call them multiple times and the call finally went through after about 10 attempts. We wanted to try this place when we were in Maine this summer but they were closed on the day we drove by Camden. We were glad that we got to try it this time.
The night market pork noodles was my favorite in this restaurant. The coconut soup was very salty and over-priced. It's $11 and came in a pint. The other dishes we ordered were good but it's not so amazing that we have to go back there again

Hands down, one of the most delicious and authentic Thai restaurants we've ever visited in the US! We lived in Manhattan for many years, but never found Thai food quite like this.
To start, we ordered the rice cake and pork dumplings. Both delicious, but would probably skip next time to make more room for the mains and dessert.
We travelled to Chiang Mai this past December, so naturally we were excited to try the Kao Soi. We were instantly transported back to the markets in Thailand. The broth was so flavorful and the noodles were absolutely amazing. We also ordered the Pad Kemao which

Was worth a stop on our honeymoon from NYC. The crab fried rice was our favorite dish. Beef curry was the perfect amount of spicy. PadSew was a bit too salty but unique with kale instead of normal Chinese greens. Pork dumplings were reminiscent of shumai.
Considering prices and level of cuisine, they should really improve the ordering experience when they’re choosing to only serve takeout. It’s 2020. There should be no need to dial 75 times to reach a restaurant just to order by phone. We have the internet and plenty of free website builders to facilitate online orders. It just feels like

This was some of the best Thai food I've had in a long time, truly loved my spicy basil fried rice with chicken (and an egg). It's a must stop when spending a day in Camden. They're only doing takeout right now but grabbing some food and having a picnic in the nearby park made for a lovely afternoon.
Be warned though, this place is super busy. They have two phone numbers you can dial for takeout but it still took 15-20 minutes just to get through and order. It's worth the wait though and however many number of attempts it takes to get through.

Delicious minced chicken Thai basil fried rice dish and their daily curry with beef were both amazing.
Super fresh and flavorful.
Make sure you order in advance because it will take a little bit of time to get your dish.
You call in your order and then they place it outside in a cooler with your name and phone number.

We enjoyed one hell of a tasty Thai meal here, and were both surprised and impressed.
This is a beautiful space in Camden, just a block or so away from the main row of shops. Our local guide (sister-in-law) told us to make reservations and that was the right call as we made them for an early dinner after driving up the coast of Maine.
For starters, the town is fun to explore and see while you're in Maine. We were there in the cooler months so popular ice cream shops and others were shuttered for the season, but it's still scenic and charming. With Long Grain, we had our toddler which

Wow. After eating lobster every day, two times a day, here in Maine, we had opted for a non-lobster lunch. My amazing fiancé had made lunch reservations quite a while ago.
Four of us. Small restaurant and every table was full. It was bustling. Two very pleasant young ladies were clearing the tables and seating people & taking orders. You could just tell they were very good at their job.
Both the men in our group are chefs & restaurant owners. They were so impressed with all the food. The homemade noodles, the garlic chive rice cakes, braised short ribs in a panang curry sauce to name

4.7 stars. Fantastic Thai food in a small, cozy, contemporary setting. Reservations suggested even at lunch. We had the spicy market soup and the spicy stir fry with thai basil after the pork dumpling appetizers. The Singha Lager and Evil Twin paired nicely with the freshly made, locally sourced food. So good.
