Enjoy delicious food prepared on the beautiful coast of Maine. At Fin & Fern, we serve a variety of seafood, pasta, soups & salads, and sandwiches. We are inspired by fresh ingredients and locally sourced seafood, and all of our pasta and sauces are homemade. Our restaurant & bar sits on the working waterfront in Stonington and is easily accessible from downtown inns, attractions, and ferries.
After 10 years of working and traveling the world as a private chef, I have finally settled down to make the kind of food that I enjoy, in a setting that is one of the most beautiful places in the country. Never would I have guessed the trajectory my career would take; beginning in New Jersey, preparing and serving food in Bermuda, Australia, and Europe, and now the culmination of my experiences being realized in the seaside town of Stonington.

When planning a vacation to Deer Isle/Stonington, The Island Agency highly recommends a visit to Fin & Fern Restaurant! Fin & Fern offers indoor and outdoor dining. The ambience is incredibly warm & welcoming. Their staff is very friendly and knowledgable to the area. Enjoy fresh flowers on the table and a beautiful water view looking out towards the working harbor. Maine Oysters & Lobster is a must! If seafood is not a favorite, try their delicious homemade pasta or ribeye! The dessert case is hard to miss, looking you right in the eye through dinner. Save room for a homemade tarte, creme br

We went for an early dinner at the end of the season. Small and close tables with a nice view. Suggest reservations do to limited seating. Fish and chips was fantastic - using Strong brewery, risotto was barely warm and Parmesan crisp was hard and rubbery, oysters presented traditionally, pizza and clam chowder was also nicely done. Desserts are really good- don't skip out! Apple tart and a mixed berry tart yum! Wait staff was darling and did a great job!!

I was really looking forward to eating here, but my expectations might have been a bit too high. Overall, the food was good, but definitely not outstanding to me. I went off previous reviews and ordered halibut and the seafood spaghetti. The halibut was cooked a bit too dry. Both dishes were large in size but average in taste. I just can't really pinpoint anything about the dishes that truly stood out. And for that, I don't particularly find the food here worth the $$$. I also did order raw oysters which were pretty delightful - it was nice to have a taste of some east coast oysters finally

We arrived to Stonington in the evening during off season so we were quickly learning that most places close early. We called Fin & Fern to check if it would even be able to seat us for dinner & they gladly set us up at the bar on the second floor.
The restaurant is in a cozy home with lots of outside seating in their garden. The menu has a great variety of options & we were pleasantly surprised by just how delicious everything was! I had the local oysters & local halibut & it was just wonderful.
I absolutely would recommend eating here…just try to get a reservation & not rely on them having

I nearly cried leaving here knowing I may not make it back anytime soon. We spent the day on Isla au Haut and thought this looked like a fine place for seafood after hiking. I was wrong. Fin & Fern is the best food I've ever eaten. The clam & lobster chowder was so meaty I had to chew it. The crab cakes presented a texture and flavor I've simply never experienced. And finally, the seafood spaghetti; shrimp, scallops, and clam meat with a spicy marinara and the best pasta noodles I never knew could exist. Please help keep this place open on the chance we ever make it back to Maine. Exquisite.

Bumpy start, reservation lost, waited 15 min to be greeted and had to walk into restaurant to find someone, wait staff ignored us. Argh. But it all turned around when we were served. Piping hot dishes, halibut and skirt steak. Cooked to absolute perfection. Servings generous. Meals were beautifully presented and delicious. Will definitely return. Place is packed, make a reservation.

I made a reservation thru google. When we arrived we were told that we had an outdoor table. It was 55 degrees 50 degrees when we got back to the car. There was no protection from the wind. There were no space heaters. They did offer lap blankets, which was not enough. The wine was mee. I got a glass of the house pinot noir, it tasted like the bottle was a couple days old. My wife had tea. There was no individual hot water kettle for my wifes tea beg. I dont think tea is popular in Maine. The lobster was perfectly done. My wifes noodles were sticky and not el dente. The crab cakes were mushy. I

This place was very nice for our family dinner! I really enjoyed the shell pasta special and my husband's halibut was very tasty as well. Nice ambience and view. Service was a little slow and lacking and we had to ask for certain things multiple times and eventually got tired of waiting for the bill and went to pay at the front desk. Would come back though for sure!

Had made a reservation but our plans changed and we arrived at opening on a Saturday evening and asked if it possible to wait for a seat and cancel our reservation. They took us right in and seated us on the covered deck. Staff was very friendly and our meals where great! Recommend the crab cakes and the fresh made raviolis were also delicious. Only tough spot is parking is a bit challenging but worth it. Make a reservation and go try this great restaurant.

We expected to really love this place but we left underwhelmed & disappointed in both the service & food. Arriving on time for our dinner reservation, we stood for several awkward minutes just trying to get acknowledged. Finally, a person who appeared to be a manager looked over and said, “Do you have a reservation?” No “hello” or “welcome” or “good evening.” Not the best start. Once seated, our server was pleasant enough but the entire meal felt hectic & rushed. We witnessed servers running into each other, soup spilling unnoticed onto the floor and heard dishes being dropped in

A unique, home setting, with picturesque views, becomes a gorgeous restaurant with indoor, porch and outdoor under the trees dining. Our waitress was superb. Grilled halibut with soy ginger dressing, pan seared… scallops along with the vegetable mushroom Parmesan risotto were prepared perfectly. Our compliments to the chef! Don’t be shy when it comes to the pastry case - dessert was a decadent chocolate raspberry (pie!) We found the prices to be extremely reasonable. I wish we had been hungry enough to try the mussels, oysters, lobster stew and carrot cake! Next time.

Delicious fresh oysters alone are worth the stop when on Seabreeze Ave arriving back from Isle au Haut or, in my case, the Puffin Tour. Great looking deserts, good wine selection and a nice garden. I had the special which was spicy linguine w lobster and shrimp, and enjoyed it. Currently open Thursday-Sunday 6-8pm for takeout and dine-in; a bit of a rush formed a queue so be sure to bring your masks for when in common areas to help the staff and keep them safe.

This was my first visit to Fin & Fern and I cannot wait to go back. This is the latest arrival to a small island with some culinary heavy hitters like Aragosta and Acadia House Provisions. I had high expectations and they were more than met. The setting is phenomenal with outdoor sitting during Covid-19 plus indoor seating with a wonderful view of the water and lobster boats. I had some Long Cove oysters and a beet and goat cheese salad. Those are always safe bets and they were both delicious. I had the special which was a pasta with lobster and shrimp. They do everything well but the pasta

My husband & I just closed on a home in Stonington. As a retired classically French trained chef who studied & worked in Paris & NYC, I highly recommend this restaurant. The cozy, friendly ambiance, attentive wait staff and delicious, fresh food were very much appreciated. My husband noticed that our local grocery store in Burnt Cove carries their fresh pasta, which I will definitely be purchasing! We are very grateful to have been treated so warmly by the chef/owner who was very kind to come greet us. Stonington is a truly welcoming community. (Not pictured: the clam chowder was superb

Food was good, some dishes better then others. Definitely recommend mussels and the shrimp and lobster fettuccine. Seafood was very fresh. Only downside was the long wait time to get our food. Took about 1.5 hours. Thankfully the waitress noticed how long it took and offered free dessert.... although id recommend not getting dessert, not very good.

Our friends who live in Deer Isle brought us here for dinner as it's one of their favorite places. We knew it'd be good but the food and atmosphere were really outstanding.
Being originally from NH and now visiting from the Philadelphia area, I had a serious jones for local seafood, so I opted for the Lobster Roll. It was a real treat, packed with a copious amount of wonderful local lobster. Ideally seasoned, it literally melted in my mouth. Fabulous!
My wife loved the Seafood Pasta, and being 100% Italian, that's saying something.
For dessert we shared the Whoopie Pie. I make

We were taking the ferry to Isle au Haut and wanted to get lunch somewhere close by. Fin and Fern definitely fit the bill, just a short walk from the ferry office. We took a table overlooking the garden and harbor and perused the menu.
Courtney took care of us for lunch and she was pretty great, full of information and really welcoming. They only had two beers on tap but they were both local. My husband's first choice was gone so we both got a pint of Rock Harbor Storm Surge. It was a pretty tasty IPA.
Husband had a bowl of the chowder and a lobster roll. I had the house salad with beets
