Countryside Animal Hospital
Because of the proximity of interactions between the staff and clients, everybody is required to wear a mask. One client will be allowed to accompany their furry loved one. Technician appointments, surgery appointments, medications/food pick ups will still be curbside. Important: When you arrive at our facility, please call the office and wait in your car.

When we are ready for your pet, a technician will come to your car and escort you to your assigned exam room. Our main goal is to provide your pet with modern, top-quality medicine with traditional values. We provide a full array of services, ranging from complete in house laboratory, digital radiographs, and ultrasound to endoscopy, surgery, and much more.
Services
Dr. Gauthier is the current owner of Countryside Animal Hospital. Dr. Gauthier graduated in 1999 from the University of Montreal with a doctorate in Veterinary Medicine. Upon graduation, he practiced for one year in Quebec before moving to Rhode Island to practice emergency and general medicine in the Providence area.
We offer a wide array of in-house testing, including blood work, urinalysis, and microscopic evaluation of different samples. We are also affiliated with a commercial laboratory for more extensive diagnostics such as biopsies, fecal testing, and more. We take preventative care very seriously. We are glad to discuss your pet's lifestyle with you so that we can customize his/her preventative care accordingly.
You will see lots of bubbles at first. It is normal. Do not water your dog at first. Soak your pet with this solution, massage it into his/her coat, and wait 15-20 minutes before rinsing. Make sure it does not get to your dog's eyes. To apply the mixture on facial area (where they usually get sprayed!), use a sponge.
Did you know that accreditation for animal hospitals is voluntary? Surprising, isn't it? Nearly 60 percent of pet owners believe that their pet's veterinary hospital is accredited when it is not. In actuality, only 12-15% of animal hospitals have gone through the accreditation evaluation process by the American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA).

Today was my cat's very first visit at Countryside Animal Hospital. The technician and reception staff are very friendly and kind spirited. I also met with Dr. Jennifer Whyatt. She is also very kind and personable. I was pleasantly surprised with my entire experience. I am grateful and relieved to know that my kitty will get expert care in the hands of these wonderful people. It's not an easy job. Your hard work and expertise do not go unnoticed. Thank you staff at Countryside for reassuring us pet owners by treating our fur-babies like they are your own.

I've been working with Doctors Herman and Garland for close to 20 years. They are kind, caring and incredible doctors, their staff was absolutely incredible. . Unfortunately they sold the practice. The new ownership/management just doesn't measure up. The prices are triple what they were, which would be fine but the office staff is so difficult. We are working on finding a new place for our fur babies but I am afraid I will never find another vet like Dr. Garland and Herman.

The vets and staff at Countryside are awesome! We have been very pleased over the years! They have been caring for our multiple pets - dogs (4 all together - two grew old and passed and we have 2 currently) and cats (2 total, 1 currently, the first passed due to cancer and had her care with countryside) since 2002. Our first dog we adopted was healthy until she grew old and eventually needed a palliative plan which they put right in place to keep her comfortable throughout the end. They have been kind, compassionate and professional with every encounter we have ever had with them!! They don't do

The absolute most well-educated, knowledgeable, compassionate, patient, gentle, understanding, caring, talented, helpful, available, thorough, and truly animal-loving veterinarians, vet techs, and veterinary staff that I have ever engaged with! I will never take my furry family members anywhere else for veterinary care because the quality of care at Countryside is so consistently and unequivocally exceptional. There is not another veterinary practice, nor another team of veterinarians/veterinary staff, as wonderful and pleasant as Countryside!

I have been bringing my dog, Charlie, to Countryside Animal Hospital for about 6 years now (first to Dr. Garland who was wonderful and now to Dr. Gauthier who is equally as wonderful). The staff has been, and continues to be, phenomenal, caring, and always fun to chat with! They have 6 wonderful techs (Charlie's "girls") who are extremely knowledgeable, professional, personable, and efficient. Dr. Gauthier and Dr. Wyatt are just superb Veterinarians who have been nothing but kind, helpful, and willing to go above and beyond to find the best solutions to take care of my pup. Even after moving out

I love this office! The staff is wonderful, kind and attentive. They have helped my kitties more than I can express in the last few months and I could not recommend them more. Thank you Dr. Gauthier, Dr. Wyatt and all of the staff at Countryside!

If I could give this office a zero I would. The new owners are clearly in it for the money and not the humanity for animals. My two cats have been together for 16 plus years and are both very sick. One has been seen by this office the other has not. I wanted to make an appointment to have both cats relieved of their pain and go to Kitty heaven. The owner refused the cat he has not seen but is more than happy to take care of the other one. Its a difficult decision to end the life of dearly loved pets. I will never spend another dollar with this office.

Absolutely the best animal hospital anywhere! Dr Garland has been all my animals vet for more than 20 years. After 16 years with my pitbull, she and her completely professional staff helped me make the horrible decision to end her life peacefully. I'm 10 years in with my Golden now and she's doing great thanks to Countryside!

Not a very happy customer. I have been using Countryside for more than 15 years. Never had a bad experience with my Border Collie for 13 years. I chose two stars instead of one only for that reason. About 5 years ago I brought my American Bully to them with her ABKC papers. The vet insisted on putting Pit Bull as the breed. Said she never heard of an "American Bully, I showed her the papers from the breeder along with a printout from the internet showing the American Bully as a breed established and recognized since the mid nineties. She dismissed it saying she looks like a Pit Bull

Our dog could barely walk, and only with great pain. We were worried she'd never be able to go on a walk again.
The surgeon at Countryside, Dr. Jim Herrmann put in some metal piece to her knee. That was three years ago, now our beloved canine runs easily, jumps over stone walls, etc. This is nothing short of medical brilliance.
They've also been really helpful with so many other issues.

Dr. Garland is wonderful with my cats. I've had ferals who just melt in her arms. Her gentle manner and calm voice put both me and my cats at ease. She is always encouraging when I tell her my pets issue, and is never unkind in her diagnosis. Often she can detect the issue before I have to explain it. She is generous with the time she spends on each animal and makes sure all my questions have been answered. Her reasonable prices always surprise me and allow me to not hesitate in bringing my pet for an appointment, thinking I might not be able to afford it. She is the most affordable

Please DO NOT ever bring your pets here. I brought my Newfoundland here when he was 12 weeks old to be neutered when Dr. Garland told me he had kennel cough. He had already been vaccinated for kennel cough and did not have kennel cough at all. She tried treating him for something that he didn't have and of course wouldn't neuter him even if we had an appointment. Needless to say, I was VERY disgusted. The medication she gave my dog could have destroyed his liver because he didn't have the kennel cough at all. The only reason we were patients there, is because the practice was sold

We brought our dog to see Dr. garland and she was very degrading and accused me of neglecting my dog. I would never see her again. Two visits to her and I left offended and upset both times. The other vet at this location was great but dr garland made me never want to go back. She doesn't care about the pets or the customers

Dr. Jim and Dr. Sara are tremendous in their genuine expert care, diagnosing, and providing realistic options with straight forward candor and compassion. Our family has entrusted our animal care with Countryside for over 20 years and if we ever moved outside if NH would drive the extra miles to continue with their professional animal care services. They have improved and extended the quality of life for our Golden Retriever Rollie of which we are eternally grateful.

If the original owner still ran Country Side I may take my animals back there. However these two are a joke. My animals get a 5 minute checkup and then they are free to leave. My oldest cat had a thyroid issue and they said to call on a certain day to get the results. So my husband called them and was told the vet would call back. They finally got back to us a week later, after my husband had called 5 times and each time he was told the vet was busy and they would call right back. Obviously my cat's health was extremely important to them.....yeah right. My cat has been going back

STAY AWAY!

I have two dogs and they each go to different vets. The chocolate lab that I brought to Countryside had been seen there for 10 years. I have never been fond of them, but my most recent visit really put me over the edge. My dog was coughing, so the vet recommended an x-ray. She took him back to be x-rayed, and when he was brought back, the vet told me that he probably had bronchitis. I asked if there was any medication that I could put him on and she said there was one but she "wouldn't recommend it." Did I mention that she didn't even show me the x-ray? His exam
