My name is Jared Circle and I am the head instructor of Koguryo Martial Arts in Westerville. I hold a 5th Dan in Koguryo Tang Soo Do, a 4th Dan in Hap Ki Do, and a 3rd Dan in Soo Ho Ji Moo Yong Soo Ji Do. My martial arts career began in college, and I have trained throughout my adult life in various systems, predominantly Korean.
What happens when you combine traditional Pre-K classes with ancient lessons of martial arts? You certainly don't get boring classes that put kids to sleep! In fact, when you put these two together, it looks more like this. Other kids are learning fun martial arts skills while getting healthy exercise.
After all, these are children we're dealing with here. And kids love their fun. We do a variety of games and activities that have kids howling with laughter, and constantly smiling. We work hard here - but we play just as hard. Any sport or form of exercise comes with a risk of injury. However, there are a few things that make our program very safe.

I tried to call this morning to get some answers about the classes. The person that took my call informed me that they weren't on site and didn't have any information beyond scheduling and pricing. I asked if there was a phone number to someone (instructor/manager/etc) on site that would be willing to answer some questions and was told they didn't have that information either. I'm not interested in causing problems. I'll gladly remove or update this post if asked. I simply would like to know who to contact and how to contact them to get the answers I need.

I absolutely love this school! My little one has been in classes for a few months now, and she has a hard time committing to after school activities. The main teachers do a wonderful job of teaching discipline and confidence, while being compassionate during students moments of weaknesses. Would highly recommend to anyone who wants to have their kid try something new.

Second time having an issue with Gung. Testing was today and my son got upset over not breaking a board. I went in to calm him down and gung said quote "me calming my son down is making him weak" who says that to a parent? He then precedes to threaten me with kicking my son out of class if I calmed my son down again. My first encounter with him I should of listened to my gut when he yelled at me. This is the nail in the coffin, telling me I make my son weak for calming him down. If I could give him honest feedback about how speaks to others he doesn't take in into consideration. This is a great place to train. I've never been one for gyms but was looking for a way to stay in shape while in college when I found this studio. Koguryo was great for that. Everyone was friendly but would push you to strive for more. To not phone it in. And when I left town for an internship, they worked with me on the contract as well. This place is great and I highly recommend it.

I am so impressed with Koguryo MA. My kids love the lessons and are benefiting in more ways than just physical exercise. I can tell my daughter feels very empowered. My older son comes back from class so happy. It really is a great place that teaches respect and focus. I enjoyed watching so much that I also joined! It is never to late to learn something new!

We are very happy with our experience at Koguryo. The instructors are truly engaging of every student, they reinforce the importance of discipline and respect while still ensuring that the students are having fun while they learn. When a student is having a rough time in class they aren't quick to just set them to the side; they take time to talk and listen to the student and work to resolve any issues or concerns in a firm but caring way. We are pleased with the skillset our child is building at Koguryo!

The instructors of this martial arts school are top notch! I am amazed at their patience and skill in teaching children discipline and respect. They break the moves into easy to understand pieces to make sure that every student understands and can duplicate what is required before moving on. While they are several students in the class, each student gets good personal attention. There has been a huge difference in my son in regards to self control and focus since starting classes here. We are early in my children's training but we couldn't be happier at this point. The instructors do an amazing job balancing the difficult (and often competing) aspects of having fun and teaching small children discipline and respect. The children get to burn energy, learn valuable skills...all while building discipline and character. What's not to love about that?! Thank you Team Koguryo. Please keep it up!!

My daughter loves learning and practicing the skills she learns in class. The instructors are amazing!! They are unbelievable at being able to instruct and connect with students of all ages and abilities. Students are not only taught to respect others but also to respect themselves! Looking forward to seeing the wealth of skills my daughter will continue to develop through her time with Koguryo Martial Arts Academy!

Koguryo was a good place to train....until the owner started getting rid of some of the instructors that the kids loved because of jealously issues. Then the entire dynamic of the place changed when the block curriculum came into play. Everyone was being tested every 2-3 months whether if they were ready or not to test resulting in a lot of people failing and having to take makeup testing; wasting time, and money, as well as drawing instructors away from scheduled class times.
Also, the owner/head master can be sadistic and egotistical and hurts people when they get into higher ranking class

We decided to try this studio out for my daughter (who is 5) for the summer. They had a great special which was $69 for 6 weeks of classes plus the uniform. It's a great way to try this program to see if your child will enjoy it or not.
The instructors are INCREDIBLY patient! Our daughter is used to being in preschool and things like this, but this is obviously even more structured than that. I feel that she is learning some really valuable life lessons as well. She is being taught how to respect others, how to listen better, how to try and sit still, and how to raise her hand before

My boys absolutely LOVE Koguryo! They tried one class and were hooked. I especially like the convenience of the classes being offered 5 days a week at different times.
The Masters and instructors are extremely patient with the children and make learning martial arts fun. Having twin 5 year olds, I also appreciate the respect, responsibility, self-control and self-confidence they are learning....along with a great way to burn some of that energy they have!
