Like many children who grow up in family jewelry businesses, Chuck Smith began his jewelry career pushing brooms and going to the post office. Eventually, in high school, he learned the craft of polishing fine jewelry and simple repair work. Charles, Chuck's father, insisted that he "only hired college graduates".
With that, Chuck pursued his interests of math and science at NC State University. Chuck graduated NC State with a Nuclear Engineering degree. After working for the federal government overhauling nuclear submarines for five years, he rejoined the family jewelry business in 1990. Smith has six master craftsmen working with him at the business.

Went to Morrison to purchase an engagement ring with my girlfriend, she determined her ring size and selected other elements such as halo and cut. I made a second appointment with the same salesperson to select the diamond. When I arrived, she was busy with another client, so I had to communicate all of the ring and diamond information with a new salesperson which was frustrating. A few days later, the original salesperson messaged me that the ring was ready. When I arrived, she asked for my name and why I was there. Joan helped my Mom and I pick out the perfect ring for my (now fiancé). I chose Morrison Smith because their ratings are outstanding and they do not disappoint. I will forever be indebted to Joan for coming to my rescue. I live in Columbia SC and had my engagement ring cleaned and redipped at a jeweler in Columbia a few days before my wedding. When I received it back, it looked dingy and worse than it did when I brought it in. They told me there was nothing they could do to fix it.
