Sound Smiles Pediatric Dentistry
Dr. Tyler Shawcroft is a Board Certified Pediatric Dentist. As a Kids Dentist he is trained to provide specialized care including sedation and sleep dentistry. Our goal is always to PREVENT cavities. By creating a fun environment we find our patients are excited to keep coming back for their cleanings and check-ups. At each visit we use our "Jedi Mind Tricks" to convince your kids that sugar is evil and keep them brushing at home (drat that Easter Bunny!). If by chance a cavity slips in along the way it's happened once.
Services
Some children are given nitrous oxide/oxygen, or what you may know as laughing gas, to relax them for their dental treatment. Nitrous oxide/oxygen is given through a small breathing mask which is placed over the child's nose, allowing them to relax, but without putting them to sleep. The gas is mild, easily taken, then with normal breathing, it is quickly eliminated from the body.
Originally from Lindon, Utah, Dr. Tyler Shawcroft graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Zoology and a minor in business from Brigham Young University. Dr. Tyler continued his education at Creighton University School of Dentistry where he graduated in the top 5 of his class. Dr. Tyler also received the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry's Student Dentist Award for showing great promise in the field of Pediatric Dentistry.

Have been bringing my son here since he turned 1 (he is almost 4) and I have to say I am very happy with Dr. Tyler and his entire staff. We recently came in to have 1 cavity filled that we kept having to put off due to different reasons and from the last time my son was in for a checkup (summer 2020) until recently that 1 cavity got bigger going into the pulp of his baby tooth and even a second cavity formed on the baby tooth next to it, Dr. Tyler explained everything very well and let me know that because the cavity had extended down into the pulp of the tooth my son would need a silver crown

Great dentist for children. My kids don't really like the dentist but this office does an extremely good job with children and it has made all the difference with my kids.

I am very happy with the care my son received from Dr. Shawcroft. My three year old needed multiple teeth worked on due to childhood dental caries while under general anesthesia (he is very hyperactive and would not be able to sit still for the procedure otherwise) I was absolutely terrified and put off the procedure for many months. Luckily, Dr. Shawcroft allowed us to have the procedure done at Mary Bridge Children's Hospital in Tacoma which helped ease much of my fears. Everything went smoothly and the procedure was over before we knew it. My sons teeth look fantastic and he was feeling

Been taking my kids here for 3 years now and no problems. Until now. My oldest went in for a filling on her right upper molar and came home with a swollen lip and looked like little marks from the tools they were using to fix her cavity. The next day, her lip was still pretty swollen as if she had been in a fight and she also had canker sores now. And on her face near her lip were scabs from being nicked with the tools. I will not be bringing my children back. My child should not have those marks and a swollen lip from a upper right molar filling.

My son is usually very reticent about new people or activities, but the dentist at Sound Smiles is really good with him. I'm thankful such a warm, friendly, kid-oriented dentist is so close to our home!

Dr. Tyler and his staff are amazing!
Not only are they super friendly and calming, they are straight forward and explain everything before they do it.
My son has been a bit afraid of the dentist, but because of Dr. Tyler and his staff, he rocked his check up and wants to go back.
I appreciate how Dr. Tyler came and spoke with me before and after my son’s procedure. He explained everything they were planning on doing and gave me possible scenarios. When the procedure was over, he came and explained everything he had done and why.
Both of Dr. Tyler’s offices are child friendly and really

Very very child friendly clinic! The doctor surrounds himself with professionals who appear to love kids and truly enjoy their job. Dr. Tyler is an *expert* at dealing with nervous children. Highly recommend!

My 2 year old hates brushing his teeth and having anyone looking in his mouth. I was so nervous for his first dentist visit, but it went really well! He got to play video games while he waited, and got a balloon animal when he was all done. The dentist was great, and my son was all smiles at the end. Definitely bringing both of my kids here regularly.

I have two young children and they both absolutely love Dr. Tyler. He has a special talent for working with kids and he seems completely at ease with them. They seem to trust him instinctively. We tried two other pediatric dentists and my daughter's reaction to them was lukewarm at best. She talks about Dr. Tyler fondly weeks after we've seen him.

Woo hoo. so glad I found this pediatric dentist. My 2 year old HATES... I mean REALLY HATES brushing her teeth at home. My husband and I have to hold her down on the bed to brush her teeth lol...BUT here at sound smiles dentistry, she laughed and had fun and brushed without ease. Both my girls were a bit nervous going in (3 and 2 yr old)... but both came out smiling and my 3 yr old told me she liked the dentist now lol... the dentist also makes cute balloon animals for the kids before they leave... I mean what kid doesn't like balloons!

We brought our girls in for their very first appointment (2 1/2) and I was nervous, they don't usually cooperate at home when it's time to brush teeth. We talked about how cool it was to go, just like Dora the Explorer goes :-) When we arrived, they loved the video game machine in the waiting area. And we had the best dental assistant! Thea was so great with them and played along with the Dora conversation. She patiently explained what each cleaning tool was, and made it playful and fun. Then both girls actually listened to her and lay still while she did the full cleaning and flossing

My review of Dr. Tyler is two fold. My stepson had a horrible dental experience at his past office. When he found out he had to go in for TX the next day with his new dentist, Dr. Tyler, he slept under his bed and almost didn't come out from under his bed to leave for his appointment. Dr. Tyler was so wonderful with Ashton that his fear of the dentist is gone!! He loves going for his cleanings and doesn't get so worried about TX appointments anymore. He talks about Dr. Tyler often and thinks he is awesome and funny!
I was an assistant for Dr. Tyler for three years when he was practicing in Lakewood
