I have a story about Henry Dean who came to our yoga class - Yoga Heart Studio - owner Selise Stewart. Henry knocked on Selise's door and said he would like to learn yoga. Henry was 89 when he asked that question. He is now 91, soon to be 92 in August, and comes two days a week and had Selise set up a home practice for him.
Yoga Heart Studio founder, Selise Stewart, is a native Houstonian and a graduate of the University of Texas - Austin. She has been practicing, studying, and teaching Yoga in Houston for over 20 years. As one of Houston's premiere Iyengar Yoga Instructors, Selise brings her great sense of humor, keen eye, unwavering passion, and a holistic approach to help students improve the connection to their mind, body and spirit.

Yoga Heart Studio needs to be tracked down, as it hides out in a small office building on a main street. The studio is very clean, bright and well stocked with all kinds of props. During the day, the natural light is a big plus.

The teachers I have taken class with are very experienced, attentive and teach from their hearts. You can tell that the students have been attending class here for a while; they are warm and welcoming. It is a great place to come learn more about yoga, to deepen your practice or just begin.

I am writing this as a criticism for the owner of this studio, Selise Stewart. I am currently taking part in a yoga teacher training that is destination based, meaning we partake in 2 week-long immersions and have homework assignments in between.

One part of our homework assignment is complete 10 observation hours at any yoga studio of our choosing. I have been trying to vary my experience so that I am exposed to as many different styles of yoga during my training as I can, and thus have been trying out new studios all over town. All the yoga teachers I have met have been so warm and welcoming

I have had a regular Yoga practice for several years, and live within blocks of Yoga Heart Studio, but I drove right by it for three years before I finally took a class there. I used to sit on the patio at Chacho's looking at the Yoga Heart Studio sign across the street, and wonder what it was like, but something seemed a little intimidating about it. It might have been the fact that I wasn't sure about where to park and how to find the studio in the kinda dated looking two-story office building next to Blum's Furniture, which has been having a "going out of business" as

If you are interested in safe, spacious, classical yoga, this is your studio. If you're wondering where you can find a teacher with life experience and mastery level understanding of how yoga works in the body, this is your studio. If you are uninterested in hot yoga or yoga aerobics, this is your studio. If you like small classes and attention on proper alignment, this is your studio.

I have practiced yoga in nearly every studio in the Houston area. While I enjoy a range of practices and styles teachers, this is by far one of my favorite places for going deeper in my personal practice

Selise is an excellent Iyegnar yoga teacher. She pays close attention to each student and knows modifications to help those with injuries or special needs. She is also knowledgeable about variations so those with more experience are able to enjoy the practice. As a result of her attention to detail, she has acquired a loyal following. Yoga Heart Studio is well equipped with props. Try one of her classes--you won't be disappointed.

Great instructors who give plenty of personal attention. It is a studio where you learn yoga you don't just do yoga. Small classes, beautiful studio, excellent instruction. Lots of workshops with leading yoga instructors from various parts of the country.

I've been going to Yoga Heart Studio for 18 months and have learned so much from owner Selise Stewart! She teaches Iyengar yoga which focuses on doing the poses correctly often using props, so as to be kind to the body and get the maximal stretch. They have a good mix of beginner (me) and advanced classes, both in the mornings, as well as evenings and weekends. There are usually 10 to 12 people in my morning classes, allowing for a lot of individual attention and encouragement. I prefer this setting to the giant yoga classes at the YMCA where you never get the teachers' attention. Yoga
